I'm in a non-US timezone, so all I get in most (software-related) IRC channels is crickets chirping. SO is like a searchable log of an IRC channel for when my question was asked and answered 4 days ago.

Android has a gesture recognition API in 2.2, implemented by one of the creators of the $1 recognition algorithm (the one implemented in the article). The creators of 'one-dollar' released the next generation of the algorithm, the $N multis

This problem [of software libraries] was definitely recognized by the Scheme community, and was “solved” in R6RS. However, R6RS seems to have been a flop... I've heard this argument before (R6RS is a flop), but no-one can give me an

Ah, I get it now. There's a two-button toggle: 'code/design'. Pressing 'code' allows you to type in HTML. I think 'design' should be renamed 'preview' because I can't edit in design mode (on Chrome but should that make a difference?). So ye

I have absolutely no idea what it is or how to use it. It's a web page editor right? I clicked on the image of a web site on the landing page which loaded what looks like a designer/editor, but clicking around and trying to type things (ass

I've been working on hybrid web/desktop apps for a while now. I use Qt's webkit to make the application window a HTML page (QWebView) and load pages bundled with the app or from a remote server (or mix content from both). Whenever I need to

This is a very interesting statement. I've been working with boot times at work recently. In one release, I pulled boot times from ~25 seconds to <7 seconds by going ninja on the kernel and init. The response was out of all proportion.

Do you need to run your own mail server because you have an email address? Diaspora should have a similar model. You can use a hosted node, or one your ISP provides you when you sign up, just like they provide you with an email address.

Your thirteen-year-old sister's "node" will live exactly where her email lives: on some ISP/hosting co. Using Diaspora should be no different than "downloading the facebook page to your computer and running it on your browser", for example.
