What I didn't realize when I wrote this is that fear sells , and how intertwined that is with our economy of wanting things for free, allowing ourselves to become the product instead of paying money, and having the media control how w

What always scares me away from assembly every time I try to learn it is that principle that makes code more dangerous or rigid or difficult to evolve, the more manual work you have to do in it. Like how it’s harder to refactor C code than

Pretty darn cool! One limitation I wish I could think of a workaround for is that "cutting out" parts of some letters (C, G, J, Q) requires laying a rotated white square over it, with white as the hardcoded background color. So th

In my experience yeah. And even still in the past decade. People on IRC want to sharpen their chops and keep their skills fresh, and if you’re respectful and doing most of the learning in your own, they’ll usually be glad to give feedback o

There are some larger businesses that do right by their customers and employees, because the leadership has a strong sense ethics and of responsibility for the ethics of their whole company.

Objective-C also allows nil to receive messages which then just returns nil also. I’ve always found this really natural in that you can assume something is either valid or null and avoid a whole lot of null checks this way. That said, I’ve

I still don’t understand how you can use basic data structure in assembly. I know strings are just allocating a blob of bytes and usually reserving the last for null terminator, but what about arrays? Is it just like in C where you allocate

I've always had better luck restricting FP to using things like map, reduce, filter, (etc) inside methods as an implementation detail, but having the structure of the app use OOP.

The point is to keep C small and flexible. It supports whatever kind of string implementation needed by the present environment, platform and algorithm. That said, several “high-level” string libraries for C exist that make it safer, more e

This is my same experience. The only things I can get Siri to do reliably is to route me home, or to do simple math problems. Also very simple short term reminders.

I prefer Limechat for macOS. It’s plain and simple but not terminal based or archaic looking. At least to me anyway. And it has themes.

The way ObjC did it is to use exceptions to signal programmer error, and error objects for program errors. I think it’s the best style, at least until the day programmer errors just won’t compile , but that needs something like Idris to tak
