Single language (one of the best as well), yet native look and feel.

C# and F# would also be decent choices former being further in and the latter farther from abstract C-like comfort zone.

RoR is cool but it narrows down your career opportunities. I would learn a modern mainstream language as well, e.g. Scala or C#, they can be used outside of scope of small/medium size web apps.

I meant the majority of enterprises, not stand out mega-stars such as Walmart who can afford to have an own lab full of experts. PayPal and LinkedIn are web technology companies relying on high-load public-facing web-sites. All three could

Enterprises don't need high-load web sites. Enterprises benefit from non-buggy strong static languages with automated refactoring.

...or you can pick a language that is better than both: GC + strong and static - Scala/C# etc.

Phew! At least not a Google+ / Facebook profile linking. I am so happy MS (at least) did not join the social war.

I hope they will understand when is the good case for using it. I wonder which kind of enterprise would need a high-load web site as opposed to a high-performance one?

Sounds reasonable :). Although I dread imagining a JavaScript equivalent of a "100+ project .NET solutions" built in spirit of "rapid development".

I can name three problems with it straight-away: 1) HTML, 2) CSS, 3) JS. The original post is about a decent language, not the ubiquitous ones.

It looks great, but: no ReSharper, I don't like JS transpilers, no way my employer will switch to something obscure. Promoting new languages is hard, even Google has a lot of trouble promoting Go and Dart.

Considering new short release cycles do what you would do with smartphones and tablets - just skip a cycle. 2013 feels like fat SP rather than a new release: no new WPF/etc., just some Azure and Win 8 crap. And MVC 5 is now a separate

JS is like a common cold - annoying, commonplace and still not cured. I mean some diseases are worth than cold, so JS is not so bad.

First of all XAML is a language. Second of all Microsoft is now avoiding saying WinRT explicitly, for example: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-US/library/windows/apps/hh87219... . Third of all "set of a
