That's very interesting. Why is auto-generated XML hard to diff?

OOXML is text based now. So Office 2007 should be text capable. Sharepoint is generally horrible with that I agree, but I think it uses the default MS word mechanism to do that which stores changes with the file at the end.... kind-of a bad

I'd say that viewing the changes are more-so the problem because diff will be able to handle the backend of things on most files, changed words in lines are picked up easily, so are tags.

As do I. I actually am building a two tiered system as my server parts come in. I pretty much have a .repo file that says to track which folders with what protocol either git or rsync, that way I won't fuss with stuff that;s annoying or stu

The new MS Office format is XML with plain text. RTF is also plain text. However it wouldn't be very hard to do, if you implement a small script that takes the git history and pushes it through a viewer showing different versions of the fil

You seem to be confusing Nazi's for actual socialists. They were corporatist fascists. Corporatism may look a lot like socialism but it isn't necessarily so. Saying socialism leads to Totalitarian fascism is a gigantic line to cross. I'd sa

I disagree, look at kfind for instance. It's a great front end to find. Certainly complexity depends on the program but wrapping most *nix philosophy utilities isn't hard, but it isn't useful either you neuter their power.

They need to optimize that thing. I may have been an early adopter but the rendering and the speed of rendering was pretty bad. Worse than FF.

Mamma and Pappa don't care about this only nerds do. Nerds can move away from linux but I guess cannonical feels Ubuntu has gained traction with Mama and papa and that it doesn't need nerds anymore.

The difference is that .msi doesn't handle dependencies, multiple versions or conflicts in a coherant centralized and useful way. The current structure of the msi installers leaves them much like their exe counterparts. If this is package m

Windows still doesn't have a coherent way of managing installed applications of various versions, and various degrees of conflict, ie, a package manager and they probably never will... Just saying...

Gah that thing almost drove me over to Emacs. By almost I mean, I couldn't get full vim functionality in Viper and gave up, some commands just can't be replicated. But org-mode is a very very nice tool. The current vim alternatives like vik

This works for smaller amounts of data, but hierarchies are still needed to sort very large amounts of data that have to be accessed at any time. Yes indexing/searching/filtering is an option but when you have 1GB of pure text, searching "t

But is user generated content for commercial use? I mean if bots are submitting it fine, but how do you go about a human submitting something to a commercial site? It's easy if the site says it owns all submissions, but what if it doesn't?
