I have a couple of cheap, super huge Walmart black friday-type budget TVs in my house (including Visio). I would never hook these up directly to the Internet, and use a set-top device (Xbox, Roku, AppleTV, iPad, etc.) Never had a negative

How many greybeards here remember the O'reilly Sendmail bat book[1]? I built an ISP off of deciphering cryptic sendmail.cf parameters from it. This is what the "fix" in Postfix aims to "fix". (Although the Postfix c

You could also do this with an iPhone hotspot- although the connected device _will_ have Internet access. Not sure if that's a problem for an oven or not.

This now puts a HUGE target on ProofPoint. My guess: Akamai buys them in the next 12 months.

This is great for the ad itself, but I want hear what happened directly after they ran it. The site went down for maybe 10-15 minutes and then came right back up. Probably a great war story from the depths of cloud engineering and devops.

This news about Windows 11 Pro "requiring" a Microsoft Account is a bit of sensationalism. You can still bypass it and create a local account if you know what you're doing, as has been the case for several years with Windows

It would be great to see ISPs in the USA, even rural or municipal ISPs begin offering this. The biggest issue I see with doing this (for residential users) is the fiber handoff. For 25Gbit, the very minimum is going to be a SFP28 module wit

I’m ordering a grip of employee laptops to refresh our fleet and expand some departments. Because Teams is such a dog, my #1 requirement is 16GB RAM. Maybe Microsoft _wants_ Teams to be piggy to drive hardware sales? On another note I think

This. I have a few /24s and only actually use maybe 25 active IP addresses. If I want to exist in global BGP tables, it's the smallest block I can use for my ASN (and not be filtered out). I think in 2022, the rise of SDWAN, CDNs,

They’re not really “losing” staff as those staff members are just moving somewhere else for a 30% pay raise. For FAANG companies, “The Great Resignation” is more like “The Great Reshuffle”.

As a long time Linode user, I hung in there through a lot of service issues and growing pains. Linode has always been just one of a handful of providers I have, and I figured at _some_ point, all of these issues will result in a solid platf

Use a router with pfSense or OPNSense so you can see egress traffic & know what is flowing outbound from your network. Visibility into this traffic is really the only way to know for sure what is going on.

"Ordering begins January 19." I see they have this behind Akamai. That's a good thing because my first thought was "Man, I hope they have this site behind a good load balancer!"

Unfortunately, using Windows Server as a gaming computer is highly frustrating, and rarely works long-term. Biggest issue is driver compatibility (especially video drivers). Direct X used to be an issue, but I think it actually runs fine no
