I recommend giving your users the option to allow telemetry or not (as others have said, preferably by opting in). Explain prominently within your software very clearly what telemetry you are collecting and for what purpose. Since this sof

Capital One is also rumored to be one of the top contenders to replace Goldman Sachs as the bank behind the Apple Card. I wonder if this is related to that.

Reading the change logs speaks volumes to the maturity of this ecosystem. A lot of really great quality of life improvements here and the always welcome performance improvements. Congratulations and thank you to everyone involved!

It honestly depends on the particular product. I think my M1 Mac Mini, my Apple Watch SE, and the iPhone SEs that I bought for my teenagers were actually quite reasonably priced. My iPad Pro, Magic Keyboard, and Apple Pencil feel a little

If these start becoming readily available for less than $3000 even if it means buying refurbished, it’s going to become really tempting to buy one.

I'm under the impression that most large organizations are on a 3-5 year hardware replacement cycle anyway. I suspect most of the affected PCs reside in consumers' hands and small government offices, not in large corporations.

Say what you want about the merits of the Pascal language itself, but the Free Pascal compiler paired with the Lazarus IDE and toolkit is still one of the most productive ways to create performant, cross platform desktop applications.

This is exactly why I purchased a base model 8GB RAM M1 Mac Mini to develop on. If it runs well on that (with Xcode in the background no less), it’s likely to run well on users computers.

I'd say not even just FOSS, but indie developers can get a lot of value out of Lazarus and Free Pascal. It is by far the easiest way I've found to create a quick cross platform desktop application. When I say quick, I mean quick

I'm not sure why there's so much hostility to this comment here. SetApp is actually a pretty good deal for developers because it creates a recurring revenue stream for low effort, and if you use a lot of the apps available on SetA

Congratulations on your success so far, I hope you have an even better 2024! As an aspiring Apple ecosystem developer myself (I haven't released anything so far, but I am working on learning SwiftUI and the related Apple technologies),

I use my iPad Pro mostly as a remote terminal for coding, either through SSH or Jump Desktop. Unfortunately on device coding is still pretty limited.

Other than the different line endings I love Erlang’s syntax, but I think the Prolog inspired syntax can be a turn off to people used to more mainstream languages.

Honestly, I think a lot of Erlang's issues are superficial (some people find its syntax to be ugly and a bit warty). The other thing it seems to suffer from is the chicken and the egg of it's not popular because it's not pop

That solves the OS differences but not the differences in installation methods, ie compiled from source, system package manager, Windows installer, KERL, Homebrew, etc.

This is true. I might refactor the codebase to do what you're suggesting in the future. For now I just pushed a new v1.1.0 release that automatically detects and supports ~/.emacs.el and ~/.emacs.d/init.el in addition t

The issue is that depending on your OS and installation method, the paths you need to use for your configuration file can vary greatly. This automates finding those paths and writing them to the configuration file.

Good point! The next version should support other config file locations. This is something of a minimum viable solution to a problem I wanted to solve for myself. I’m definitely open to feature requests and suggestions.
