I'm kind of amazed that natural temperature management such as geothermal cooling isn't more of a thing. If you were to design a house with the sleeping spaces below ground, wouldn't you save a lot on cooling and heating cost

It's not the best. I had to trawl through a bunch of documentation and filter out old info (modules became namespaces? I think?), and try different formats for the typings file. Tbh there should be a FAQ that is just: Help, the compile

I'm digging the rise of well designed, friendly online books about programming. Between Crafting Interpreters, Beautiful Racket and this, there's enough material for a programmer to go very far. Plus it's a lot less intimidat

Could you provide a source for the maintainers of redux-form admitting that Redux was a poor fit for forms? I'm inclined to agree and am kind of interested to see their reasons.

Language ergonomics is a really underrated feature. I remember having to link system libraries to follow an OCaml tutorial, which was extremely painful. Or running into issues installing Snap for Haskell where the package manager would basi

It's pretty incredible how fast Juul took over the market. Even a year or two ago nobody I knew really vaped or smoked. But now Juul has basically made vaping popular. It's super easy to get, lightweight, and amazingly effective

On one hand I'm inclined to agree with you. Thin is not always better. On the other hand I'm holding my 3 pound Macbook Pro comfortably and easily. It's light enough that I don't have to think about slipping it into my d

I love the short story "The Gernsback Continuum" for this reason. Gibson writes about his rejection of a bright, optimistic, pseudo Aryan future for reality. It's framed as a writer plagued by hallucinations, but I read it mo

I was walking through a computer store recently and I couldn't help but notice how tacky all the computers looked. The Touch Bar may be frivolous, pretty useless and a waste of money, but it blends into the design of the laptop and mos

I'm not sure I agree with "great documentation". It's a pet peeve of mine, but I don't like it when the tutorial for a server side program uses ES6 modules and decorators. This means I need to set up a build system

I keep on running into this problem where I try to use a new framework/language for backend, like Go, Kotlin, even Node, but I just get so damn bored with writing the same boilerplate. Say what you will about Rails, but at least the ma

Yeah, I guess I'm not giving the documentation enough credit here. The main issue I see is all the companies rewriting their applications in React. Because I don't think they see it as a complicated engineering decision with trade

For styling, I'd look into CSS in JS, specifically JSS. Not only are all selectors scoped, you can create functions that return the proper styling. Frankly I think web developers as a whole need to rethink CSS and/or any paradigm
