Many Clojure abstractions need things like map, filter, concat, etc. Reducers are eager, lazy-seqs are lazy, and core.async channels are lazy and push-based. This is a way to unify all these abstractions so that you can write a single map&#

Not good enough. When the time comes that you do need to add something, then what? Clone it? In languages that allow you to freeze a collection, adding something to a frozen collection is often a O(n) operation. Most of the collections in t

I find it funny to hear such grandiose claims about a language that can has yet to create a major killer project. That's why I can never bring myself to write Haskell. Show me the Storm, OTP, Datomic, Netflix, Whatsapp, etc. written in

Clojure's big idea however is not FP or OOP+FP+Lisp, it's data. All idiomatic Clojure programs will attempt to represent their app state via Clojure data structures (vectors, sets, and hashmaps). Functions are then the simplest wa

I'd love to hear more about their issues with PyPy, it sounds like they wrote of PyPy simply because they don't understand why it works so well. Not to mention that this is mostly a re-hash of stuff found in unladen-swallow. I mea

Many times the clojure code is so much simpler, a) even basic testing will catch most of the bugs and b) there are less bugs since the code is so dense. In many ways it's just simpler to understand what 5 lines of Clojure code are doin

As many are saying it's a pragmatic choice. And it allows you to do stuff like this: (:foo (:bar {})) Without throwing a NPE. Which is what I want 99.9% of the time. As someone who codes in Clojure close to 10 hours a day, I rar

Before finding Clojure I dabbled in Erlang. In the end I found the "share nothing" model to be too limiting. Sure its great for highly fault-tolerant systems. But the fact is I just don't need that most of the time. It's

This is why I like langs like Clojure and F#. "Functional" enough to get the good parts, pragmatic enough so that you can actually get work done.

Very actively. We just released core.async, and Clojure 1.6 should be out by the end of the year (1.5 was released at the start of the year). And yes, the CLR is a bit of a second-class citizen.

Back around 2006 was an auto-generated file in Blender 3d's source code, if you edited it by hand and then ran one of the tools it would spit out a .h file with the contents: "NO! YOU FOOL! STUPID, STUPID, STUPID!"

I'm working on that right now, but it won't be out till the end of the year. I'm giving a talk at Clojure/Conj about core.async and hope to cover most of these sort of questions. I'd publish notes about it now, but

Only partial indexes are retrieved (what is needed to answer your exact query). The bonus is that that data is now local. Transversing deep structures then often approaches the speed of hash-map lookups. As someone who has worked on very co

Actually it's that you have more options in core.async. In some cases you want dedicated threads, other times you want lightweight threading. Core.async allows for both models. Simplicity doesn't always mean "one" it mea
