I'm not quite ready yet (esp. documentation is lacking), but I'm working on something to get the best of both worlds: https://freckles.io Basically, you write your state-defining code in Ansible, using either modules,

Neat, this looks really useful. Was on the lookout for a search engine for my auto-generated documentation pages, this looks like it could fit the bill.

Currently I'm working on documentation, trying to explain (and sort of figure out for myself) why I spent the last 2 years developing a declarative scripting framework called 'freckles' ( https://freckles.io ). Th

Really, you can't think of anything? No offense, to me that's a kinda bleak outlook. Money is sorta necessary, but to me it'd always just be the fuel that makes or keeps the interesting things happening.

Cool. This is really shaping up nicely. I have to admit that when I first heard of it, I thought it's probably just one of those projects I'll never hear from again. Really happy to be proven wrong!

Oh, sorry, I didn't express myself clearly: freckles still uses Ansible under the hood, it's just that the whole project sort of went it's own way and dragged me with it. Feels like it, anyway :-) freckles actually supports m

I agree. It's a game changer when you can easily replicate all or specific parts of your dev setup with one command, everywhere (remote server, new laptop, dev vm, even containers). I wrote a script for this too (actually using Ansible

I don't know, not for me. I still think it's possible to think of your business also as a political statement. Sure, you have to be prepared to 'pay' for your conviction, and possibly fail because of it. Which does not s

Ha, I know exactly what you mean, Reddit is scary, esp. when you show them something you build very dear to your heart. If you are lucky, they just ignore you... :-)

Neat, congrats. I'm currently using Zulip and custom integrations (which were very easy to do) to do more or less the same thing. So, not sure there's a reason for me to switch now. But I might have used this if it had been avail

Not sure how well that'd work in your situation, but maybe you could license the pro parts with one of the licensezero ( https://licensezero.com ) licenses. That would disallow use of your software (or the parts of it you c

Yeah, or just host it yourself once reviewed. That's what I do usually (not with this haven't heard of this before), but with scripts I find now and then).

How does saltstack do tasks that require root access? Use the root user directly?

Alternatively, you could always use pyinstaller to create a single static binary for a Python app, so no need for python to be installed at all. Not quite as performant as go, but should be good enough for this use case.

Basically this is what configuration management does. So, why not use Ansible, esp. ansible pull ( https://docs.ansible.com/ansible/latest/cli/ansible-pull.htm... ). You'd prepare an ansible playbook, an

Found this just yesterday, and really really like the concept. Would be cool if it supported logins via Keycloak, as that's what I use. Will keep watching, it seems there's some work on Oauth/SSO going on.

Have you talked to them? What did they say if you did? Management might not be aware this is happening. This here might be a quick-and-dirty attempt to stop them, at least temporarily: https://writing.kemitchell.com/2018

Probably too crude a solution for you, but when I had that problem, I created a 2nd Github account (you can also use a Github organization), and made that account the owner of the 'archived' repos.
