I think this is spot-on, and I'm 100% here for it. Here's a secret: even JS developers don't like all the frameworks and build complexity. We like what they afford us, but the overhead has been a symptom of an immature ecosys

I've stopped being surprised, and I don't have the capacity to continue being upset every time something like this comes up. This administration is a farce. It's just a fact of life. Expecting otherwise at this point is like

Yes, it's very similar to CORS. They just need to block all localhost requests from non-localhost pages. Maybe carve out an exception for when the dev tools are open.

I don't follow what this has to do with websockets specifically; they just go over HTTP, so why couldn't you do this with a regular HTTP request? Either way it seems easy to mitigate at the browser level: block all requests to loc

You're not wrong that the terminology is needlessly confusing, but that also doesn't mean the ideas themselves are obvious or aren't powerful. The same happens in many academic spheres; good ideas are created, and then they&#

The comical part is that their very interest in the items is based in a religion that's nominally very opposed to lying and stealing. Fetishizing artifacts is apparently more important to their faith than doing what's right.

Right, and "GoSojourn" sounds a) like it couldn't have been auto-registered by a bot going off of keywords, and b) like it carries more whimsy than a spammy developer would likely put forth.

Yet it opens with this misleading blurb: > Centering in CSS is a pain in the ass. There seems to be a gazillion ways to do it, depending on a variety of factors. Which is no longer true in the great majority of cases.

This is a straw man. Today you can simply use flexbox on the container: display: flex; justify-content: center; // horizontal align-items: center; // vertical Doesn't work in IE without a JS polyfill (whi

Clojure direct tackles most of these problems and it seems to me (subjectively) that it's one of the most widely-used Lisps for actual production systems.

I mean, this would be enough to get me to whitelist them in my adblocker. Same goes for any other sites that do the same thing. I feel that's a strong, existing incentive.

I don't know why people don't do more of this sort of thing. Keeping models aligned between DB/API/UI/whatever else is a laborious and error-prone process. It's a perfect candidate for a DRY solution.

I think it's a backwards-compatibility thing. Browsers take BC extremely seriously, even when it comes to UX. Changing the unstyled look of different elements could break a legacy site that didn't give those its own styles.

This is... not remotely what people mean when they say "reactive". And nobody thinks JS is necessary to get a visual theme that looks nice. CSS and JS frameworks serve radically different purposes.

As suggested by a sibling comment the key isn't to prevent horizontal scrolling, but to prevent content from overflowing a single screen width. Which isn't hard per se but doesn't have a one-size-fits-all solution.

It's because the consumer experience is so subsidized. Consumers would also love an app that sends them $1.10 for every $1.00 they spend in it.

This whole sphere of economic activity is a gigantic farce. It would be hilarious if it weren't so pestilent. The only upshot I can see is that it feels like people are finally catching on to it.

I love this mindset. I think as engineers we often get discouraged when we feel like our own implementation of something could never be as good as what's already out there (at least, I do). But the question that should be asked is: &qu

It's quite simple to use the web view process for nothing but the actual UI, and to move any intensive logic to a separate process (or even native code). It's also very possible to make that UI code quite performant (this takes mo
