While I'm perhaps with you on "Self driving cars need to be effectively perfect (almost impossible) for me to consider them", we aren't the market which, by typical human nature, will accept 'good enough'. So I

Yeah, just like here in HN. /s I'd prefer not to be treated like an idiot but so many sites are determined to.

No, it's okay. Coming from two people with your backgrounds, okay. What I really don't like is that sometimes people make assertions here and they really are not in a position to do so, and it looked like this was the case here un

That's an unsourced assertion with potentially serious medical implications if you happen to be wrong. Do you have anything to back it up?

I think the one who will be milked by the chinese are the russians, for stupidly making themselves dependent upon the one major power that will deal with them. Chinese government must be drooling.

It should be downvoted because no reference was given. People need to be very cautious of accepting unsourced figures and facts.

"Dandelions are an incredible gift from nature" is not an argument. Other edible plants I listed, but that does not make them gifts, their edibility is incidental. You noticeably failed to address my point that nature's '

There is no objective proof and asking for it is disingenuous (unless you want to be clear about exactly what 'proof' comprises, that would be interesting). But you may not be aware that animals do eat other animals and it's

I'm objecting to anthropomorphisising (sp?) nature. Dandelion roots being edible to humans is just how it is, and it might very well not have been if we had or lacked certain enzymes. Nature isn't here for us, to make our lives ea

Please stop with the "nature's bounty" rubbish, it's just soft thinking. Since you ask let's try carrots, beetroot, fat hen, strawberries (yes, leaves and stems are edible too), samphire etc. If you want to broaden

Like being dropped into a very other world. I'll have to dig some out and read again. The feel is like it's written by someone not sane. Gormenghast, a least the first 2 books, felt the same - not-quite-sane leaking through. The

It works with good bosses. You will know pretty quickly if they're good by how they act. I've told good bosses what they need to hear and it's gone down well. Mind, the good ones are not common; the bad do predominate.

IDK anything about music theory but I wonder, if you're having trouble finding a good at abstraction to express theory, perhaps the theory is at fault. I mean, at a high level, theory is the abstraction isn't it?

If you're as big as Google maybe not. Most companies aren't receiving 5,000+ messages a second, and I don't understand what's so special about a data like. There's nothing wrong with storing terabytes in an RDBMS. A

People change, societies and norms change what once was de rigueur is now rightly held repugnant. Religion back then is very different from religion now, what happened then wouldn't now. No point getting angry at the past. (atheist)

I have a 32" monitor, 3840 x 2160 and if you don't allow the OS to scale everything by 150%, you have an awful lot of room. I actually wish I'd bought same res but at 34" or 36".
