Yeah I'm not trying to say it was all peachy or wax poetic about the Soviet Union. It was clearly a deeply flawed country with myriad economic issues. I'm just saying that even if some of the housing was shit, everyone was housed

"Homelessness jumped substantially" is not "Housing became cheaper and affordable". It was all state owned lol, what does affordability even mean in that context? I'm just saying they built more housing than they ne

Obviously not but we shouldn't slow down development over some boring looking buildings.

People give Brutalism a lot of shit but I think the buildings have a certain utilitarian charm. I have heard that concrete can be very unsustainable and counterintuitivly actually hard to maintain though, so I suppose it's a good thing

One of the only things the Soviets did right was building a shit load of dense, boring housing at huge scales. They eliminated homelessness, which jumped substantially when they became the Russian federation and privitized everything.

Gaudí was incredibly ahead of his time with the design of the cathedral. Even as a non-believer I highly recommend that people visit this building at least once in their lifetime. It's unbelievable in person and I actually got vertigo

I agree that CNET sucks, but it's very emblematic of the affiliate marketing bullshit that has infested the internet for a while now.

Almost like we shouldn't be generalizing an entire professional sector with statements like "I hate journalists", huh? The blame for the decline in journalism lies squarely at the feet of the architects of the ad based intern

I'm kind of disgusted by the contempt people in tech have for journalists, when the tech people are the ones who authored the current media ecosystem.

Many here know I personally despise AI, but to take off my tech critic hat for a moment, if subscription models don't work out, we still ultimately do have a bunch of pretty powerful base models to build on. If you can push inference t

VCs learning nothing or cynically continuing to try and cash in on this scam isn't exactly an airtight argument, even if my original statement was wrong. FTX also raised a ton of money.

It's still a scam even if bitcoin is currently benefiting from the creation of institutional ETFs. FTX was one of the largest financial frauds in history and the founder was disgraced and convicted. There's clearly a large amount

I think this points to bigger issues with the AI field generally with respect to adoption and development. The output of these systems is fundamentally unverifiable. Building a system to verify these answers would be orders of magnitude mor
