This. Also: peer pressure. As a non-Facebook user, I get questioned about why fairly often, and my family makes passive-aggressive noises about missing pictures and whatnot. And here, any time this comes up, someone thinks they're bein

Theoretically, nothing. In practice, the isolation it relies on is somewhat weak. And in general, it is new and exciting and changing frequently, which means security bugs. Also, most people seem to rather suck at configuring it, as far as

I've never used Facebook, see no reason to start. I occasionally get pushback from some relatives who tell me I'm not taking part in family stuff. That probably matters to some people, depending on their family dynamics. I simply

You can "opt out" of a lot of the data collection by editing your hosts file. 127.0.0.1 facebook.com 127.0.0.1 fbcdn.com etc. Multiple people maintain lists of Facebook and other surveillancecorp domains.

Well, one reason is that touch screens for desktop OSes suck. Holding your arm out screen operations for any length of time is awful, and wiping the prints off your screen on your pant leg doesn't work very well on a laptop. That'

There's been plenty of pressure for Apple to show it is not on the decline since the 90s. The "Apple Hype Peaked; nowhere to go but down" and "Does [decision or product] prove Apple as lost its way?" articles are pr

As others have said, I have a problem with folks championing large social experiments and then leaving it to others to clean up the mess. I also have a problem with the notion that the only freedom that matters is economic. As I see it, the
