I don't have anywhere near the same number of items in my iBooks app (only a few PDFs actually). Once a book is open, it's ok, but it just took 40s to open the app. That actually seems a little quicker than it has been, so maybe

If I'm buying fiction from an author I know and like, that I think I'd like to last for decades (and maybe leave to my children one day) I'll buy hardcover. That's maybe half of my fiction purchases. For authors or book

Does anyone run proprietary software in a cloud context? The whole point is that the hardware becomes as flexible as the software, spin up, spin down, blow it away and deploy a fresh instance if something goes wrong. I can't see many p

PyGame Zero ( https://pygame-zero.readthedocs.io/en/stable/ ) might be worth a look? Its aim is to bridge between Scratch and PyGame proper.

Scratch ( https://scratch.mit.edu ) is an ok introduction to thinking like a programmer, although it might be a little too simple for a 10yo gamer ... I'm finding the leap from Scratch to Python + PyGame is kinda challenging

Librem One is nothing but a bundling of already-existing services into a branded product. You can use OpenPGP with your email, Matrix to chat, Mastadon for social, and OpenVPN for tunneling without becoming dependent on Purism. I think comp

Let's assume a police officer costs the state $88,0000 annually (including salary, training, healthcare, equipment, etc). So $88M is 1000 additional officer years. It's possible a camera and its installation will cost up to $500,

That's how those who use Java do it: write their code to minimize allocations, and then configure the JVM with a GC threshold that's bigger than their whole day's allocations, and manually GC at a suitable time. Last I looked

In a little more detail ... To be competitive in US equities HFT, you need an FGPA with 40GbE ports hosted in a server (which needs to power and cool the FPGA, and deal with the less latency-sensitive bits of your system). You'll need

Right, so when I’m trying to process a network packet in about a microsecond (a reasonable target for financial trading software), Go’s GC rules it out. Many low-level, high-performance systems language tasks aren’t feasible in Go for simil
