Mathematical notion has changed over the years. Is Diophantus' original system of polynomials that legible to modern mathematicians? (Even if you ignore the literally being written in ancient greek part.)

There is no world where you have more people than problems because the more people you hire the more problems they discover.

"joy of shell scripting" feels like something only someone who has never done any shell scripting would say. Shell is a horrendous excuse for a programming language that is truly one of the hardest things to deliver working softwa

IME speed is the biggest bottleneck. They simply can't navigate the code base fast enough.

This is basically every problem in YAML. Someone couldn't resist adding more stuff and either didn't realise or didn't care about the ambiguities it created.

tom7 is the embodiment of masculine ideals. He's got the brain. He's got the muscles. He's got the GPU. He's starred into the abyss and abyss blinked first. What more could a potential mate want?

Congratulations for being the only person in the thread who did an ROI calculation. Did you DIY your install?

I know CrowdStrike have a pretty bad reputation but calling them hobbyists is a bit rude.

At least here in the UK financial literacy is so low that I think lots of people are doing exactly that.

I need permission from the grid to feed in energy. I need to comply with building and electrical regulations related to the PV install. Of course there are still gate keepers.

In terms of the costs to the grid the picture is not nearly that simple for distributed generation like home PV. Maybe you can defer building a new power plant or upgrading some HV power lines, but you also need the local power infrastructu

What other sense could I possibly mean it? A home owner who puts PV on their home could instead have invested in a larger scale PV business and made more energy per dollar. By putting the panels on their home they have robbed us of electric

It doesn't do any of these things. I can't put PV on my neighbours house, I have to buy land to put it on. My home still needs a grid connection so all that infrastructure still needs to exist. Except now it's even more compl

This mostly seems to support my statement that the ROI is worse. You cannot discount the cost of the house entirely in the equation. Many people are not even home owners.

I'm sorry if what I wrote made it sound like I don't take the climate crisis seriously. Quite the opposite which is why I think it's important we allocate resources to it efficiently.

Can't shake the feeling that domestic PV is a con designed to try and shift responsibility for the climate crisis to consumers rather than industrial energy providers. The ROI of a large PV farm must be substantially better than a home
