And yet, our specialists are the best in the world and people fly in from all over the world to be treated by them. I'm not saying our system is perfect or can't be improved, but "Barbaric"? You win the prize for the mos

Surely, the freedom to walk down the street knowing you can protect yourself from a fatal stabbing is more important than the freedom to feel a false sense of safety? Ban guns, people will use knives. Ban knives, people will use sticks. Ban

On the scale of things to worry about, most Americans are more worried about the flesh and blood swat team down the street serving search warrants than internet surveillance. When the police are armed with military grade weapons and sees th

It depends on where you cross the border. I've had nothing but good experiences crossing the border at the Thousand Islands Bridge or Massena, NY. Both ways, everybody was kind, friendly and patient. I hear nothing but horror stories a

Severance: Blade of Darkness (2001) for PC[1] was pretty good. Sadly, it suffered from two fatal flaws: horrendous bugs (even by today's standards) and no strafe. The sword fights were awesome, though. You could cut off a goblin's

What do you suppose separating it from academic institutions is going to do? The culture of sports will still be there. You can't hack away basic human nature and seeking social status through acts of physical strength has been part of

While I appreciate the sentiment that version control is very useful, I'm loathe to put all of my data in the hands of a US based company again. Went down that road once with Google. Never again. I think "Git for everything"

A lot of it has to do with extroversion vs introversion. The lone programmer working long into the night without seeing another human being is long gone. The work itself has become more social as collaboration tools get better and better. T

I recently did something similar to this short term (airbnb for a month in SF) and I'm curious: are all digital nomads strictly software guys or writers? I have physical electronics and carpentry projects I like to do in my spare time,
