It seems like portage did remember that those packages were built against that openssl version - when running as "emerge -DavuUN @world @system --changed-deps" the problem went away :-) Probably some caching issue/race condit

If anyone is getting the same results as me where you could not run emerge world --deep because random already installed packages pulled back the openssl-1.1.1, you can use following command: emerge -DavuUN @world @system --changed-deps Thi

Gentoo is very much alive - from time to time I try some other distro but I keep going back. I do some development and I need headers and generally latest versions of some libraries and in Gentoo this is by default. In Debian there is no wa

I generaly don't bother reporting errors like this, I just fix it locally and push things into my overlay/forks and I'm done with it.

Oh yes, crypto/OpenSSL in C has to be the tenth circle of hell, the one even Dante himself would not dream of in his worst nightmares.

This unfortunately already completely broke Gentoo for the moment :-( Maintainers masked openssl-1.1.1 but there is currently a ton of packages with (sometimes needlessly) hardcoded requirement for old openssl. Including things like Rust

My genuine reaction to this was " holy shit! this cannot be real! ". After that I had to read your post carefully to notice that it has happened in 90s. But still, I was alive back then, it is not that long . Thank you for this i

If you are happy with your choices, it does not really matter what others (especially random people on the internet) think so I'd say just ignore what others think :) Plus I'd say that to have kids (in a family sense) does not nec

Why is that offending? There is some kind of drive to have kids/to reproduce. That drive makes biological sense. I'd say that majority of living things acts on it. If you personally don't feel that drive, there is nothing inh

I really genuinely don't see the point. Yeah, it gets old when people talk about kids and ask you about it (especially when you made a desicssion to not have them), but that does not hurt my feelings. Not in a way that I would have to

Well that tends to happen. People usually talk the most about things that are a big part of their life. So if someone wants to connect with you, they will inevitably try in certain point of life to ask if you have kids. Nothing sinister her

If you believe that your choice is right, why are you so sensitive about it? I'm asking as a person who does not (yet) have kids myself.

It seemed like that when you were saying how you hate "that attitude". Nevertheless, that statement does not say that there is not a life for everyone. It merely states that there is an inner drive to have children, see them gro

Is it? I don't see anything patronising in there. It is just a statement. I don't think that people who cannot have children are seen as something less. This is just you wanting to be offended. And yes, in general there is almos

I'd say there is a difference - even though they get paid millions for kicking a ball, they do what you would expect then to do. Writers/actors/directors are kind of different - I would expect them to take a source material a

The only viable adblocker is uBlock Origin. There are several clones that are trying to piggyback on that name though. You have to go for the original one - the one from Raymond Hill (or gorhill )!
