I agree... I know nothing about the web advertising industry or how it works with bidding and so on and I don't think I am alone. So if a site has ads then as far as I am concerned the buck stops with the them: I have no knowledge of

In most walks of life we happily pay for something that provides us value: Cars, phones, shoes etc. I don't see the web/app ecosystem as any different although owners (that's app creators and web site owners/creators) fe

I used to agree with this but it is easier than ever before to seriously reduce your footprint on the web: I use a VPN, UBlock Origin and NoScript and although it's not perfect it stops all third parties tracking me with their stuff. D

I am looking at the market as a tool to fulfil my needs, e.g. I need X and company Y springs up to provide it. I understand the political aspect of companies like google and the security nut in me says that they are in collusion with variou

I'm not sure to be honest: It's the tin-foil-hatter in me that is saying this but perhaps something like Google gets hacked and no one finds out for a couple of years giving someone plenty of time and data to do what they want, e.

Of course but my point is that no one is forcing me to do that. Sure, it sucks that they are harvesting stuff from me even though I am not part of their conclave but, as much as it pains me to say it, I could decide not to send or receive a

I don't have a problem with Google, Facebook and Twitter dominating the web as such because I don't have any accounts with them: They are commercial entities filling a need. Capitalism at work I suppose. We all have a choice not t

I would have thought that the algorithm would be entirely agnostic and based on incoming data only without humans to distort it, e.g. I share details with a dozen friends about aliens landing in Central Park, they then share it on and on. F

There is something else to consider too: The political party that brings this in will likely be in power for a really long time! Think about the consequences: Even if it was proven financial suicide for the country (Governments can always p

Haha, of course :) However, I am not in favour of Government handouts. How much money did it cost to give me £80 back? £100? £150? Would it not be better to reduce my tax so I pay £80 less each month?

You are right, they are contradictory - I was typing faster than I was thinking. I believe in a kind of 2 tier system but I didn't get that across. e.g. You lose you job and the welfare system keeps you going at your current burn rate

I don't think anyone wants a Sci-Fi dystopia: It doesn't benefit anyone. Government should provide every citizen with basics should they falter: Food, clothing, shelter, education etc. I absolutely believe that is a basic human ri
