You could be right. With certificate authorities for example they are used to establish trust. How do you know what site is trustworthy? How do you know which resume isn't ML crafted? How do you prove your pic/video isn't fak

It's different because the userspace experience is differnt and incompatible. It's an operating system on its own kind of like how MacOS is Unix based but an OS of its own. This is a "ship of thessius" problem. At what p

My suspicion is there will be a lot of new jobs that revolve around verifying random internet content or school work and such, not to tell if it is LLM generated but to simply validate the facts claimed in the post,essay,video,etc... I don&

Listening to existing instead of potential users (market share chasing), not screwing over users and unix design philosophy are what are important to me. What you said can be acheived while sticking to those. If I want windows or macos I ca

Systemd is a big one, a diminished experience is not the issue, deviance from core unix principles and chasing market share instead of pleasing existing users was the big problem i observed. For example, OpenRC had comparable boot times as

I am all for a great linux desktop experience but I don't think getting very popular can happen without making a lot of changes that erode the very reason we migrated to a Linux desktop. I speculate that many of the most controversial

It's not default on anything and gmail users naturally default to it. It doesn't market as much as MS and Google either. People using firefox specifically seek it out. I'd wager, at least 80% of users haven't heard of fi

Debugging x64 apps, malware reversimg and exploit dev are my main use cases. When I looked into it, windows or other OSes only worked on X86. Macos native emulation is useless. I would want to run idapro in windows10 and debug X64 apps.

I've been in death valley at 121F for hours at a time outside. So long as you have a hat, hydration and salty snacks it is surprisingly bearable. I would rather have that than even 85F with 100% humidity any day.
