This is wonderful. You should be proud. It's a fun recreation and it was fun to use. Back when I was using XP (2004-2010), I had a 19" black CRT monitor. Once I got a laptop, it became a second monitor. I got whatever the family d

I like having my media locally, non-drm and under my control as well. I've grown-up in an era when media flowed freely on the Internet (music, tv, movies, books, academic papers, games and software). It takes a minimum of effort, but i

Unfortunately, I usually find out about things that directly affect my employer (government) on local subreddits before I find it through any other source. I will read CBC/Radio-Canada and TVO (public broadcasters for Canada and Ontari

I actually like this idea in theory. Except, it wouldn't allow for students to find flexible part-time work. As an example, I was a university student in Canada ~15 years ago. I lived with my parents, driving 30 minutes each way to att

Wow. The ease-of-use is insanely good. I haven't figured out yet how to move clippy to a different location on the screen (rather than centred), but it works well. I have multiple models downloaded and am chatting already!

Story time. My wife and I were vacationing in Portugal last summer. She left her purse in a uber car on the way to the airport. The driver found the purse and dumped it after taking 20$ and some costume jewellery. We tracked it to an abando

I created an account in 2022, but had been a regular reader much earlier. From Slashdot in 2002 to Digg in 2004 to Reddit in 2010 and now HN. Happy New Year (+30). Here's to a personally productive 2025!

I agree, in a sense. Windows has had mostly .exe (.msi) packaged installers that run their own install scripts to place files and modify the system to run the software. The software vendors all used the same format. Installing software was

I have no idea. If you’re on the same LAN, I assume you can use LocalSend, although I haven’t had any luck with it on my corporate, segregated, network. I’m betting it doesn’t work with complicated configs or MAC address filtering.
