Some domains don't have the established regularity of architecture that it takes to achieve 10X efficiency. Two I can think of off the top of my head are embedded systems, with a variety of sensors, outputs, processing power, and memor

Almost all robots that do useful work are deployed behind barriers and kill switches. A robot that's strong enough to do useful work is strong enough to be dangerous. The humanoid form factor doesn't mitigate that fact at all.

I wouldn't be surprised to find that the quality of the average cop in the US has improved since the 1960s, at least by some measures. But they are a lot more heavily armed, so mistakes and malfeasance on their part is deadlier.

With a few exceptions, like mob run baggage theft rings at big airports, criminals are not very smart and have pretty poor opsec. Solution rates could be a lot better than they are.

I'm sure there is an audit log. But because, you know, computers, they'll probably charge you a few thousand dollars to process the FOIA request. If you could get the time cards and GPS tracks from police departments, how much det

The level of duress also matters. US citizens have been shipped to foreign prisons and there's an active case of high-level officials at DOJ violating court orders about that.

I've definitely seen brands of cookware that obfuscate their use of PTFE nonstick. The brands that use Kyocera ceramic coatings often specify that by name. Even cheap brands like Green Pan play it straight. So you have to do a little b

My observations from experience: - Nonstick helps, but don't use it instead of a fat. - Ceramic works well enough that I'm shocked Teflon nonstick still exists. No reason to risk it. - Use real food. Real butter, real olive for mo
