No app for webOS (although emby exists). You can, of course, use the Web player over your local network.

Yep, there's far more GUIs and desktop support for tasks than in days of yore. There's definitely still a mindset that the command line is much easier from a documentation/support point of view which means that forum response

You asked about what I meant exactly, so I told you. And for what it's worth, I'm not writing off your concerns as ignorant or bad faith, but aimed at OP's "That's what I'm hearing since 20 years". That

For mods etc it's definitely still nascent, but is exactly the sort of area which has smart problem solvers working on it. I've already seen mod helper apps for minecraft and elder scrolls popping up. There will be more.

With my example above (Proton) it has had a transformative effect on how many games are playable on Linux and how easy it is to play them. Prior to 2018, there were only a handful of native ports, skewed towards indie games. Now 4,582 are c

Since the release of Proton in 2018 and the subsequent release of the Steam Deck, the difference is night and day. If your last experience was 20 years ago I would sincerely recommend looking into it again.

Anti-cheat is improving though [0]. EAC and Battleye both have Linux/Proton support and so just need for developers to enable within their apps (Battleye only needs for the Devs to send an email for BE to activate it their end). [0] h

The Steam Deck and other developments (Proton/DXVK, Nvidia kernel drivers, EAC/Battleye AC support) have weakened that position, though. Linux is still only 1.2% of PC gaming, but the idea of that increasing isn't as bananas

Matrix integration is big. Maybe not for Thunderbird, but this is probably the most venerable application to support it. Probably not surprising as Mozilla moved from IRC to matrix.
