Huh. Didn't realize it was that much. I thought it was only equal to 1-1.5 cups of coffee/day. Thanks for doing the math!

Not coffee, but, I had a similar experience with Coca Cola a few years back. I went from drinking 1.5-2L a day[1] to none[2]. Of course, I dropped caffeine and picked up sugar instead (turns out, its really cheap to grab a Brita filter and

As long as its easy to hack up a script to parse the output of the discussion, what difference does it really make where the discussion happens?

Flagged, mostly because I'm not quite sure what the point of this article was, after reading it twice. Is it supposed to be something other than a rant about a commercial?

Ah. I (mistakenly, it seems) thought that VLC used the framework that Apple released awhile back for hardware accel as well. Whoops. Ouch, at -3 for that, though.

VLC is already doing some of that (an area where Mac users can envy their Linux brothers a bit). You are aware that VLC does work on Mac, right?

Merging is still a pain with git. Especially if you have to deal with xib or xcodeproj files (for iPhone/Mac dev). To the point where the usual process I see amounts to "don't touch this file -- I'm working with it (and don't want to lose

As to apple. I've always wondered if the magic there will continue after Steve Jobs dies. Apple did just fine while Jobs was on medical leave for six months or so.

...Check cashing via cell phone is pretty cool. FWIW, I can do this with Chase and an iPhone app that they offer. No API, but, I don't need one. Mint works fine with Yodlee.

Between the Folds is one of my favorite documentaries. Its fun to watch. The people featured get incredibly into what they do and have a ton of energy. It reminds me of how I feel when I'm having a really good day and code just comes ou

That makes perfect sense. And I would agree with that. But, a different UI paradigm doesn't necessarily mean rewriting the entire OS. But, I suppose that I'm nitpicking here.

The sandboxing and codsigning stuff exists in Mac OS X as well. `man sandbox-exec` and `man codesign`. The latter is being pushed for use in Mac OS X by Apple as well; to provide easier keychain authentication for applications, for example.

It just seems like it gets less love, because the iPod touch is updated 2-3 months after the iPhone is. Really, its just because the products were announced 2-3 months apart and thats how the release cycle works out.

1. San Francisco, as a city, isn't that big. I don't think its worth focusing on having to be in one particular area of it, simply because everyone else is. You don't have to worry about traveling to/from the city until you're in Berkeley

Making the .ipa should do the trick. You can test by renaming app.ipa to app.zip, unzipping it and looking in the .app bundle for embedded.mobileprovision. Also: you can see which UDIDs are valid for the profile (to make sure everyone who s

So, thinking out loud here, is there a place for an academic hostel? A low-rent complex with dormitories... I'd say that cheap living, in exchange for lacking comforts (privacy, being able to cook your own meals, etc) is the sort of thing

There's a way to bundle your app with an embedded mobileprovision file, so that building a beta amounts to double clicking a file with an iTunes icon and hitting Sync. Makes adding an app feel like adding a song to their library and to thei

Getting 700,000 users in one weekend is nothing to be ashamed of. And quite likely enough to pull the gap much closer, or reverse it to put the iPhone back at top.

Why not create the servers necessary to do that; to allow off-line IRC, and deliver via push? There are folks already using a similar scheme - bouncers - to do that with existing IRC clients and servers, after all. Package that and sell it
