You can scale the simulator down to 50%. And if you don't need the window chrome, you can fit almost all of the iPad simulator onto a 1440x900 display. Enough so that its definitely usable.

How about "minor" developers? By that, I mean people who would make an app as a hobby in their spare time. How easy is it for them?

A "Universal Binary" is the exact same thing as a "Fat Binary," the only difference is that marketing gave it a new name. If you look at the mach-o header of a binary that contains multiple architectures (initially, ppc/68k or now, i386/x86

Actually three20 is a great option to go with for many apps. This is the only bit of advice in your post that I completely disagree with. Three20 may have some nice UI bits, but it is a very poorly designed framework. I say this having lo

The people who made the nasty posts aren't representative of the HN community in any sense. I didn't see the posts you describe, but, if they did say what you're describing, good riddance at them being removed. Moderators exist for a reason

FWIW, I've upvoted a story or two in the past, simply because I hoped that other people would comment on it and I was genuinely curious as to what the community thought about the story/post. It could very well be the same case here. And ple

Spend 20 minutes talking to each other once or twice a week on Skype. By the time you have to make the video, you'll be pretty comfortable with it. Also, close AIM/GTalk/Twitter/whatever while you do this. Don't let yourselves fall back t

I suppose that makes me one of the smaller handful of people who's learned the IRC protocol while making an iPhone app (Mobile Colloquy). And I even liked it so much that I then had to go and do some work on a second implementation of it (f

Additionally, some big APIs from iOS have been (or look to be) available in both OS's. CoreLocation and AVFoundation, at the very least. And the multitouch framework on each OS is very similar, even if the prefix isn't. It wouldn't be too h

GCD is separate from blocks; you can use one without the other. GCD/libdispatch is a library written for concurrent execution and to make it easier to manage. Blocks are closures added to C, Objective-C and C++. Lambda's have also been (or

That has nothing to do with Cocoa. It would take me as much time to do a Rails app well as it would for someone who has as much experience in Objective C as I do in Rails (that is, not nearly as much as I do with Cocoa).

I, too, would be interested in more info (like total lines of code, whether or not they built a Twitter engine from scratch for the app, etc). I believe that Twitterrific uses MGTwitterEngine now, but originally had used its own.

I know people who increase (>= 2x) their hourly rate if they're expected to do the same amount in half the time because of a deadline. Who's to say that Iconfactory doesn't do something similar?

I've taken to setting whatever IDE or editor I'm using to have comments in italic Helvetica, rather Menlo, my fixed width font of choice. It makes comments easier to read, and I find myself writing slightly more of them as a result.
