Can you explain to me what the "risky investments" were here that SVB partook in?

Oh I read it as "I only want to block people manually". For sure if there are existing "moderation" tools in place to clear spam and wildly offensive material then yeah manually blocking the rest seems... mostly fine?

I don't spend all day on email blocking! Gmail does a great job.

lol so the fact that we didn’t have $250k of runway ends up being a good thing?

Exactly, and just to drive it home, I’m going to feel zero pain as a result of SVB imploding, Thanks to the fed. I felt no pain in ‘08, in ‘20, also thanks to the fed. It was just news to me, abstract and happening to other people. That w

If you think this place is well moderated, try having a civil discussion on DNI initiatives or anything at all that gets the tech-bro SV hate culture engine fired up. You will be downvoted, flagged and throttled before the hour is up.

It’s likely just one person fwiw, HN is alarmingly bereft of anti-one-person-who-is-upset measures.

And thank you for your bootlicking. I wonder if the irony of creating new accounts just to comment on the uselessness of anonymity is lost on you or not…

If there's no tree, then what is there? A rhizome, maybe. The article is about literal trees (e.g. dogwoods, oak) and not mathematical structures, but it has a decidedly philosophical bent, and I find the idea of rhizomes to be relevan

You can challenge a subpoena right? Like, he could hire a lawyer and contest the scope of this? Not saying it's not wildly inconvenient, but he could if he wanted to.

Okay so to be clear, are you saying you don't believe Walmart.com does the things you've listed, but if they did, you'd be wrong?

I’ve said before and I’ll say it again; the startups that find ways to use AI to solve problems without having to advertise that they’re using AI will be the winners in the long run.

Forms were annoying but `react-hook-forms` eliminated any random issues we had, and now forms are fine. Again, context saves the day here by letting me grab the form context within nested components to keep everything humming. I don't

I get so lost in these conversations, because I've been the lead on a relatively complex React app for literally years now and none of any of this has mattered or come up in any way whatsoever. Our app is plenty fast/responsi

Which, of the two, would be more accurate and relevant to users? Do users care about an estimated 27ms increment that they objectively cannot notice, or the overall measured response time?

Hm, so you think it's better to calculate response time than to measure it as a way of tracking this important metric?

Who here is suggesting you add a "couple dozen" of dependencies like this? And you're on a "generic web app for Internet things". This page loading 27ms slower would not be perceptible.

28ms is a small trade off. Sorry, but it is, and this is exactly my point; you don't have to give a hoot about 28ms and you can still be a very effective developer. In fact, I find it hard to think of an effective software dev who do

Huh, what does that have to do with whether or not Amazon has a monopoly? I think at this point it’s clear they do not, you just didn’t have the info about the industry you were commenting on.

Per your citation, at 875 kB/s it takes 28ms to download. I'm gonna leave that in the "small" category for now, considering 516.25 kB/s is about what Cuba averages on mobile, ranked last in the world. [0] [0] http
