I don't think I get it.. The slashing, is this like public bookmarks? How will they stop spammers / SEO gamers? They say search results shall involve people, but spammers and SEO gamers are people too.

Thanks for the inside info! Always interesting to hear from inside companies like this. You're on the wrong side of the Atlantic for me though :)

Yes. This article seem to confuse TDD vs having tests. It's talking about having tests, but referring to TDD. You can have a solid set of unit tests even if you didn't doing TDD.

I know it's standard internet stuff, but if I click on a big button saying "Start reading", I want to start reading. I do not want a big form asking me to register. If I like the service, yes, I will want to register, but give me a chance t

It's going to be very interesting to see what happens when HN continue to grow. I don't know how big HN is right now, and I don't know where the breaking points for an online community are, but growth does mean change. I remember some years

Ah yes, was going to comment on that too.. Why do you have a captcha? Are you having spam registration problems? As captchas are a hassle to people, I wouldn't worry putting one in place until you have an issue with non-humans registering.

I'm also looking for a new permanent home for RSS reading now that Bloglines is closing down. I like a cross between "click each feed" vs "all feeds" -- grouping. So if I click the group "London" I get all new items from my feeds that are i

Would it be viable to get the other another dev trained in this other language? As has been stated before, having a single point of failure is not good. Also - are there other reasons why you'd want to rewrite that code? If it's well writte

So in effect, this is hiring a Linux sysadmin consultant for a short/fixed term contract (?) That's cool. A lot of devs is not very good at sys admin stuff. I've actually had my puppet config and other sysadmin set up by a contractor.

I don't know about the providers you list, but Linode has something called StackScripts, which gives you the possibility to easily build a new machine with all the software etc you want installed. They've got ready StackScripts for a lot of

This could be useful for people learning a new language. There are already plugins for getting translations of words/phrases, but if this service also stores the words I've looked up, I can go back and repeat. Maybe I can even be quizzed on

Also, don't trust Seagate, Western Digital, Maxtor, or any other hard drive manufacturer.. (the serious point - if it's important, don't have a single point of failure. It doesn't matter if it's hardware or cloudware)

It obviously depends on 1) who your target audience is, and 2) what your website is. If the target is HN type people I'm guessing the number of non-Javascript goes up. If the website is pure information, why not provide it even to people wh
