As a (very) young person, I hope that all of you who have the opportunity to (and feel it is appropriate) to instill programming into your children at a young age do so. The beauty of adopting a craft paradigm like programming lies in how i

I just turned 20 and I've been programming for 8 years. The biggest thing I learned is that Gates was wrong -- skill continues to increase well after your first 3 years. Outside of that, programming has proven to be one of the most rewardin

I spent a considerable portion of my teenage years wasting away in front of books like Windows Internals in the hopes that I would be slightly better at writing rootkits and exploits than the next guy. It's a pretty fulfilling skill and mee

If a clause contains only a single unassigned literal you can only satisfy by assigning the value that yields this literal as true. Therefore it isn't necessary to make a choice in this case even though unitprop checks. You can avoid a cons

Doesn't this strike anyone as, I don't know, maybe a little bit melodramatic? Not trying to discount or in any way disrespect the author or the people that read him, but I think these kind of posts, as much of a guilty pleasure as it may be

This is like asking for SQL databases to have a SQL-Injection escaping function. You 'escape' format string attacks by using the C language in a correct fashion.

Axiom of Choice has been on shaky ground for the past 50 years and really only continues it's existence through inertia. The second one has some deep wisdom in it though :)

(BIAS ALERT: I'm down the hall from the Curebit guys) I've heard PG's scathing email comments towards them and I've read some comments with moderate amounts of interest and frankly I think the HN crowd needs to chill out. If I was a more br

This vulnerability is reassuringly difficult to exploit under normal conditions. On this dreary morning in San Francisco, against my better judgement I've taken a crack at it (On most systems, due to a combination of old compiler AST-optimi

I disagree, the period in which Dr. Amdahl lived experienced an even longer 'slump' in development than we have been today. But I'll get down to brass tacks - an i7 is about twice as fast as a Core 2 Duo.

My initial intuition is that such an egregious oversight can't possibly be real for a YC11 company, can anyone validate this? Does Parse really provide no way to set document fields writable, readable and so on?

I'm not sure, I have never asked anyone else about their compensation or explained mine, I've always heard that is impolite to do at a company. However, I do always enjoy talking about technology, if you have any questions you'd like to run

I think its fair to say that if you're a designer and you can't code and your work doesn't look like this http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f3/Rembrandt... , It's likely you're just a untalented designer who also can't code.

It can be as much bullshit as you would like it to be. I won't work for a company that makes me write designer's HTML. I'll do manual labor, I'll take out the trash, I'll do the dishes, I'll help move, I'll clean, I'll do the system adminis
