That may well be down to the cost of the metal to make the inductive coil. Now if you add the ability to do comparable RFID comms using this chip, then how would the costs compare is what we do not know.

One explanation or at least a factor I've observered is those with money (be that a house/assets or savings) tend towards voting for a Concervative goverment over a Labour goverment as they feel they better serve them financialy.

Yes and even with MPEG-2 patent expired, they are still offering that https://codecs.raspberrypi.com/mpeg-2-license-key/ so not sure how that cost breaks down today.

With Espressif shifting towards a RISC-V focus, it sure does look like a the market is opening up nicely. Though does seem that any ARM sale/IPO may well need to happen sooner or later as this will surely start making dents.

The upside is, you have lots of DAC's that fill that whole market and with that, better choice. Now you can always use an external USB DAC, I personally use a Behringer UMC202HD, though the UMC204HD maybe a better model if you want to
