It was ten years ago so I don't remember. I don't remember anyone disliking me or anything, though.

Oddly, I had the exact opposite experience interviewing at Microsoft. I blazed through all the questions the manager asked, and the manager told me I was the most talented person he'd ever interviewed and would definitely get the job,

This is one of my favorite stories. When I updated to OS X 10.7 Lion on my Hackintosh, I got a weird issue where the hard drive would wipe itself every few days – like, I would turn on the computer, and it would tell me the hard drive was b

I ran a hackintosh setup for most of my university days. I loved OS X on my MacBook but I wanted more power and a larger screen, and I couldn't afford a Mac Pro. Compared to both Windows and Linux, I preferred OS X's behavior in:

That only works if you're ranging from 0 to n-1, though. A popular way to partition an array at i and j is to do: arr[0..<i], arr[i..<j], arr[j...-1]

I'd always heard about this, but the one time I left my backpack in a Yamanote Line train, it was returned with around $2000 worth of cash (in multiple different countries' currencies) missing from my wallet. My wallet was really

I'm moderately annoyed you think I don't already know all these things. The problem isn't that I don't know these things, it's that I'm beyond those things and trying to add subtle things to improve quality of

Because I still believe in the ideals of responsive web design. If a desktop user wants to use my site in a tiny window (maybe to tile it next to another window), they should still be able to use keyboard shortcuts. And if a user with a lar

I know, that's why I said "unanswerable" and "all I can do is guess". The specific feature this came up recently is whether or not a chat app should autofocus the input box. Ideally, the answer is "yes" if

New browsers still don't support everything. One of my biggest questions: "Does this device have a keyboard?" (relevant for "should I show hints for keyboard shortcuts?") is still straight-up unanswerable, and all I

Hm, if a phone is to support a factory reset feature at all, everything it's bundled with needs to be there somewhere in read-only memory. And everything I've read says that disabling an app and removing updates removes it from ev

I think it's easier to drag-and-drop from the Downloads folder to where I want to save it, than to dig through a Save dialog to find the folder I want to save something in. So it's less work whether or not you want to put your dow

The recycle credit is 30% off a new Sonos product, which, as far as I can tell, is worth around $100. The linked tweet says the recycled Sonos would have been worth $250 on the secondhand market if not recycled. It's extremely doubtful

I was an expert on JS way before TypeScript. I was kind of slow to adopt it because "the type hints are optimized away and can't even be used to boost runtime performance", but when I did start using it, I loved it and wish I

Having lived through the CoffeeScript thing, the main issues were: 1. CoffeeScript required a compile step; JavaScript didn't. It also meant that you needed to do your debugging in JavaScript, and deal with a lot more leaky abstraction

If the other party is not so innocent, I believe that counts as market manipulation, which is highly illegal. There's not much incentive here to do that, anyway; it doesn't increase your expected value over the original coin flip.

It's funny that he says that, then suggests using Normform instead, which very much hides checkboxes to replace them with mimicking components. To be fair, it's not like I've found a better solution for styling checkboxes.
