Cringley doesn't seem to assign any value Apple gains by (I'm assuming) preventing IBM from pushing Android. This seems to me to as much about countering Android as improving sales into large enterprises.

While mapreduce isn't my area of expertise, my guess is it's probably easier for them to use mapreduce/ and Hadoop than invent their own wheel in some cases.

Sure feels like money has been privatized by EMV & PP. I guess I'm going to have to go figure out Bitcoin and Dogecoin one of these days. (I realise that the issue is actually money transmitting)

Don't overlook the fact that Macs do have USB ports. Some argue the elimination of the ADB and other ports with the iMac helped popularise USB.

A VC who invests in software predicts that hardware will become a commodity. I hope he's wrong. Cheap commodity hardware is such a pain over the long term. Plus, a desire for quality goods bodes better for US manufacturing.

To clarify; his relationship with and view of FaceBook is a business one. I'm implying not greed, but that by virtue of the industry he works in his view is likely to much different from that of those who are not in a position to sell
