I would argue, that separate control/data channels makes protocol more secure. You can't sneak commands on data and you don't need worry, how do terminate data transmission and switch back to control mode.

Sorry for being naive, I am not american. Can you tell, why those farmers aren't buying tractors from other companies? Those news always contain Deere name, I don't see similar critique against say Valtra or Belarus.

I am not aircraft specialist, but I have seen similar things in IT/telecommunication. I think this is competence issue. F.A.A don't have people and tech to really understand/analyse anything that is going on with modern plane
