I initially thought this was just a function of reading the same thing multiple times, but I’ve since had it happen many times when reading something completely new. Somehow my mind wanders and when I tune back in, not only am I reading cle

I don’t see how it’s is a statistical fact. There’s nothing I’ve seen on YouTube that compares even slightly to a high quality movie or TV series (unless it’s an unauthorised copy of a movie or TV series…).

I don’t know about Mountain Fever, but for anything I haven’t been able to find on Bandcamp, I’ve been able to find on Qobuz.

Not so much the huge PRs, but definitely the LLM generated code that the “developer” doesn’t understand.

Because AC don’t cover non-functional things like maintainability/understandability, adherence to corporate/team standards etc.

Came to leave the same comment. It’s very possible to deliver code that’s proven to work, that is still shit.

I’m so sick of getting “but copilot said…” responses on PR comments.

I do a similar thing on the investment side. I did play with this app to see if it would give me anything that my spreadsheet doesn’t, but I’m not really seeing it On the spending/budgeting side, I could see the use of day-to-day track

I was one of those “medicating kids is a terrible idea” people, until I had kids with severe generalised anxiety. It took a lot to convince me to try it, but it made their lives better in such an obvious, immediate way. The whole experience

I think when you get literal shit mailed to you, it’s ok to think that people can be shit-flinging apes.

No, you can tell it to use the metadata as-is. Sometimes there’s just weirdness though - for example recently I bought an album and the band included all the tracks from their previous album as bonus tracks. So I used Picard to split them i

I spent a couple of nights working out how to configure beets to my liking and have loved it ever since. My “workflow” is now: - buy album on Bandcamp - download zip - beet import {zip file name} And beets extracts the zip, matches the albu

I went with the Libra for the bigger screen and physical buttons. My kindle is certainly more pocketable, but that’s not a huge factor for me. I do agree with the sibling comment on the eink display a I find I always need the backlight on t

I recently went with a Kobo Libra Color to replace my aging 10th gen Kindle. It’s a nice device, and the stock Kobo software is fine. The best part though is how well koreader runs on it (much more seamless than koreader on Kindle). The kil

Not sure about Obsidian sync, but for Bitwarden you can self-host Vaultwarden.

Jellyfin have just gone through a massive refactor and pulled all their data access code into EFCore. This opens the path for supporting different RBDMSs which think is next on their list.

Have things changed recently? Sideloading books has always been well supported in every kindle I’ve owned, though admittedly my current model is 3 or 4 years old.

As always, it depends. I'm on a mastodon instance centered around a fairly specific topic, whose members donate (more than) enough to cover the costs of running the instance. Of course, it still relies on the benevolence of the guy who

I find chatgpt incredibly useful for writing scripts against well-known APIs, or for a "better stackoverflow". Things like "how do I use a cursor in sql" or "in a devops yaml pipeline, I want to trigger another pipe

This (along with syncing on iOS) is what made me switch from `pass` to Bitwarden. Password sharing (and self-hosting sync with vaultwarden) are killer features for me.

Your body weight varies by more than that during the course of a normal day. Carrying 1kg should not increase any sort of risk of injury unless you exceptionally weak (as in, have trouble walking at all). For the same reason, you probably w

I’m not sure I’d choose to use Fortran, but at one point I had to maintain an app that had a Delphi UI and Fortran business logic. The Fortran, although spaghetti, was much less frustrating to work with.

I’ve seen this comment or similar many times on HN, and I wonder if it’s a result of the kinds of companies people work for. If you’re in a “boring” industry, it’s completely infeasible to hire a 24/7 dev team just to cover on-call. Do
