There is nothing democratic about China. This is just a fact. Admittedly western countries are also not democratic per definition, but at least they have an elected oligarchy, which is miles closer to democracy than Chinese despotic regime.

The dissonance between this comment and the one above is striking really :) . One user asks for non-China countries to intervene in China or the occupied territories, and another user is outraged that the same has actually happened in Venez

And another practical observation is that not many people have Lobsters account or even heard about it due to that (way less than people who heard about HN). Their "solution" is to make newcomers beg for invites in some chat. Gues

Problem 1 - assuming this Vouch tool gains wide adoption without major fuckups, I predict that a lot of people would "outsource" their own vetting to it, and it would become a circular system where newcomer would not be able to ge

This is logically consistent if we take a second and think from an immigrant PoV. What a citizen risks if he steals phone for example or runs red? A big fine, possibly a suspended sentence for first timers. What does an immigrant risk? His

Just a nitpick - to make anything CO2 neutral, including planes, we need to remove the same amount of CO2 from the atmosphere as had been emitted during construction and usage of that thing (a plane or anything else). This is not happening

I agree about wealth cap. I suspect that ultra-rich would rather pay higher taxes than have a hard cap. Or cap will be defined in such way as to become meaningless. This is why I advocate for high tax brackets, as being more realistic in pr
