By choice. Society doesn't penalize anyone if they decide to go off the grid. Look at it this way: should the rest of us with smartphones pay for that bank office?

If you teach kids critical thinking they won't believe in religious fairytales anymore.

Society needs nurses and plumbers. Not more dropshippers and influencers.

Culture is more important on whether or not a country can slide into a dictatorship. Americans are ultimately conditioned to accept leadership. Belgians have never and never will agree on anything.

Honestly don't use Signal for privacy or anonymity. I switched to it because it is not owned by a sycophant of Trump. Oh how Americans make fun of the CCP but watching all the tech bros bend the knee was embarrassing.

I needed a new printer. Instead of HP I bought a Brother because it was a Japanese firm. Small battles.

Maybe because investors assumed they could sell their shares to the next sucker. How many people who own stocks actually give a shit about the company they invest in (for about 5 seconds)?

After WW2 the Dutch government decided to replace the old currency with a new one. No crypto involved. It was done to wipe out all the cash profits people had made during the war. If you couldn't explain the source of your money adequa

Look Americans just hate it when poor people get things for free. Despite the fact that the US economy can afford it- certainly better than the Japanese economy nowadays. It is perversely CHEAPER to give someone a flat and 1000 eurodollars

No I don't believe anyone voluntarily chooses to become a drug zombie. I think that if you were able to communicate with these people you would hear a lot of sob stories.

Social housing programs in Europe were first invented in the 19th century. Part of it was altruism to be sure. But the richer part of society also understood that the slums were hotbeds for disease, crime and revolution.

There is homelessness and then there is America with people using drugs in broad daylight and setting up tents on the side walk...

Sure you can many countries have a social housing program... Cities across the world run into the same problems SF does you know it is not particularly unique or unusual. Although I am a bit perturbed that there is still such a huge problem

Kobo ereader is way more expensive. You can get the basic Kindle for 80 eurodollars (because Amazon expects to make it back).

I like my Kindle because it was cheap (nobody can beat that price) but I've never bought a book from Amazon nor do I plan to. If they aren't interfering with (2) Amazon can do what it wants.

My theory is that Putin was losing and America decided to save his ass. Russia represents fascism, dictatorship, militant Christianity and nationalism. These are things that Trump and his followers like.

I come from a hyper individualistic culture were people appreciate their privacy. Americans at least have church. You really have to put in effort to connect with others. Alcohol helps. And the realisation that the others probably feel just

The Kindle became big because it is the cheapest ereader on the market. That's because the hardware is deeply subsidised by Amazon. I don't buy books I loan them from my local library and put them on the Kindle.

The problem with the A380 was that only the biggest airports could accommodate them. Personally I always try to fly direct I absolutely HATE changing flights and apparently I'm not the only one.

Ofcourse it would. Capitalism is all about dealing with shortages in exchange for money. So clearly someone just doesn't want to pay up.

The Netherlands has a shortage too. But they just cancel flights or even entire airports if they are understaffed. As an employee it is your duty to refuse orders that potentially risk lives.

In the 1970s the Netherlands tried to save it's shipyards (from Japan and Korea at the time China was nothing). There's just no point to it your oil tankers end up more expensive so nobody will want to buy them.
