The GPL arguably has close to the minimal level of restrictions - it allows you to 'do whatever you want', except where that 'whatever you want' prevents someone else from doing whatever they want.

In my opinion, Carcassone is generally simpler and friendlier. The rules are fairly quick to pick up (although, as another commenter mentioned, scoring at the end can be a bit tedious). Also, in a couple playgroups I've seen, Settler&#

I've generally had the opposite experience. Carcassone is simpler, and a player can generally play competently on their first game. Catan, on the other hand, I've found difficult to teach, despite the rules being fairly obvious to

There's definitely a slope, and trade-offs in both direction. In the case of land, there's an absolutely limited supply of land, and so I think it could be argued that, in balance, it's more important to make sure that limite

From another perspective, some of those downsides could be considered behavior as intended. Basically, in a tax-less scheme, there's a strong financial advantage to just showing up first. There is an absolutely limited supply of land,

The author mentions that removed files stick around on disk after being removed, and that this can increase the size of a compressed bit-for-bit copy. They then suggest you can mitigate this by writing zeros to a file before rm'ing it.

Two things about Star Trek - 1. Other characters can and do ask for locations. This is apparently considered non-private information. 2. As open and utopian as the Federation may be portrayed to be, Picard is still the commander of a milita

NP-complete problems aren't impossible, they just get very computationally expensive the bigger they get. OP would only be rich & famous if they had developed an algorithm that solved minesweeper in polynomial or better time. (i.e., a t

Hi, Talin from Trulia here. For commute, our heatmaps are rendered in canvas, based on JSON data from our servers. This allows for the efficient slider. We also have static image tiles, for certain (ahem) browsers that don't support canvas.

On the large scale, you get pretty much the same map whether you're calculating 'to' the marker or 'from' the marker. The only exception is if you plan on commuting in the opposite direction of rush hour traffic, both ways. i.e., if you thi

Hi, Talin from Trulia here. As many commentors have pointed out, our time-accuracy is not exactly 100% yet. :) This is our first iteration on this concept, so we are using some heuristics to try to get times roughly close, and accurate rela

Hi, Talin from Trulia. The times are calculated with a simple Djikstra's traversal, implemented in the open-source pgRouting (pgrouting.org) Our existing local information pages were already using google maps, so we didn't go out of our way

for you, and your repliers: this data is already available as a downloadable file. Check out ftp://ftp.census.gov/ It's CSV, and it's kinda ugly-looking, but it's available. The 'full' data set is ...rather huge. The full data set for any

IMO, a lot of what is important are the little nuggets of truth that straddle the line between values/philosophies and hard skills. In response to your list: + numerical literacy - risk, budgeting, and investment all stem from this. The val

Maybe I'm missing something in your comment here, but - Python and Ruby already have smooth dev server installs. In fact, much smoother than PHP, as you don't need apache or fancy permissions to just run something local. Ruby, rails: "rails

Here's a preview of the violent crime map - it's colored based on the percentage of violent crimes in a given area, for areas with > 50th percentile crime for the county. As you can see, Hunter's Point definitely sticks out in this map.

doesn't the size of the family almost completely account for the difference in price? say you do a simple, stupid analysis - 12k / 3 = $4k/person/year, which is greater than 17k/5 =$3.4k/person/year of course, that's not entirely fair, sinc
