The irony is that nowadays we have better tools than ever to build small footprint sites, thanks to HTML5 & CSS3. We have versatile native HTML controls supporting styling; CSS gives us gradients, box-shadows, rounded borders, etc, elim

Same here in Finland. I have my phone number entered in "Phone Numbers" section but still see no two-factor authentication option. Besides, the Addresses form is buggy, won't let me save (keeps asking save/discard confirmation forever).

Why all of these "HN for x" sites also copy HN's less-than-optimal¹ look? (¹ I'm being nice here.)

Just FYI, in my own tests I've found Node.js performing about 50% better (req/s) than Tornado/C-python, while Tornado/pypy comes very close to Node.js' performance. Tornado is one of the fastest Python web frameworks and does not use WSGI (

True, but other languages are not typically processed in the traditional mod_php way where urls are directly mapped to files in your static root, thus it's extremely rare to see e.g. python or ruby files served as static files.

The fundamental problem with many PHP applications is that the php files are located in document root, i.e. can be potentially served as static files. More correct approach would be to put them outside document root (e.g. APP_DIR/lib), and

Google Chrome Frame needs to be installed, often not possible for the end-user. Besides, who wants to _install_ something to view a web page?

Desktop would be more useful if you could map any directory onto it, e.g. ~/ or ~/code. The mapping could per virtual desktop. Maybe a symblink would work (depending on the system), but no regular users can do symlinks.

If you are living normal life in your mid-twenties, the idea of spending rest of your life in prison for nothing must feel worse than death. Even without prior mental health issues.

Assuming you will use the laptop for two years before selling it for 50% of the original price, the server will cost extra 1200 eur (24x50) during that period, making the Air + server option more expensive. Also, it's much more comfortable

Bootstrap should include vector icons by default. In the era of HiDPI displays, bitmap icons look just plain ugly (unless served in double resolution). Nobody should use them. (Not to mention save of bandwith!)

Have to say, the symbol for spinner icon is poor choice. It doesn't look good when animated like that; typically the individual dots grow/shrink sequentially (impossible to implement in CSS as long as the icon is a single element).
