I send registration welcomes / email confirmations via Mailgun. Likewise, my company does the same thing with a different provider. It's not spam, just handy.

The headers could use a different (darker) color to offset them. Right now it's easy for the eye to skip from section to section.

First, ask if you really need "massive" scale. Is this an idea, or a well-defined product? I'd imagine if you knew what you were building, you wouldn't be here asking. So "massive" -- why not prototype on Postg

This helps services, but as some point you have to run a database layer too ;) Cassandra helps, but it's not the whole story during large-scale close together reboots like these. It ends up being a decent bit of manual operator time sp

It's a brilliant article. Reminds me how much I've forgotten since I last manipulated floats and doubles by hand back in architecture class and wrote assembler routines. Thanks for writing it!

From what I understood, it's a Rust agent communicating protobuf structs over IPC, not embedded into the gem. In such a case, memory safety and GC is less of an issue.

Love that you guys are using Rust in production. Very elegant design (AS::Notification IPC -> Rust). I'd dump the part of the marketing site talking about the fast UI on Ember. It's cool that you guys use Ember and you're

If it truly was only 10GB of data, something was seriously wrong with your table, schema, or query.

Orbiter too. It's incredibly difficult to make your orbit. You really have to get it right from the get go on the ground. If you have to do an orbit transfer, that can sometimes be a huge amount of your fuel just to line up for the tra

We had to switch from CMS to G1 when moving to JDK8 for reasons yet unknown, other than CMS used considerably more than CPU it had in JDK7. Fortunately, it's not a service that can't tolerate 500ms pauses here and there.

I'll agree with that. I had to really dig through the user group to find answers to a lot of things. e.g. @SingleValueResult if you want to return an Optional<Item> from a query. I didn't know about @CreateSqlObject, thanks!

For those of us on Java, I've grown to love http://jdbi.org/ . JDBI has a lot of features that are convenient (e.g. auto-mapping of columns to a POJO), but synthesizes DAOs for you from interfaces annotated with SQL que

Then you should probably rewrite your statements anyways to take advantage of platform-specific features. I won't write a query on MySQL the same as I would on Postgres, because there's usually a better way. CRUD is about all that
