c'mon you know i meant that 10-20 lines are for an ie6+ solution. You have to justify why you use something additive, not why not to use it. If your decision not to use jQuery (or another lib that makes your life easier) is because of per

Yeah sorry that one liner is pretty ugly. Also I don't see the issues with chaining and debugging. Chrome has a v.good debugger. And to top it off querySelectorAll requires ie8+. Why not just use a extremely well tested library that automa

you're kidding right? Off the top of my head event normalization is worth its weight in gold. Oh and try querying for something like this in ie6. '.class + .other_class > .yet_another_class' Having css3 query support in legacy browsers

I think the point is that learning how to program around all the browser quirks is such a monumental waste of effort and time. So in reality i'd say jquery (or any other lib like it that smooths out inconsistencies) is required. Unless yo

I've recently thought about going 'Naked' JS, but I'm dubious about the benefits. I haven't dug into the code, but doesn't jQuery already use native methods like querySelectorAll where available? I guess if all you need is to query the docu

No worries. I was v. disappointed when I had to fall back on flash for resizing. Felt great having client side image resize and upload (with progress) without using flash.

Just fyi: uses filereader. There is a bad (crashing) memory leak in Chrome. Bug report here: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=114548... Beware if you intend to use filreader to read many large files. Allocated mem nev

border-box is the only sane way to work with boxes... it's the way things should have been from the start. The mental gymnastics involved in box layout is so unnecessary :(

wow that is a long list! what time period are we talking here? Some of the ideas seem like they would need at least 12 months if not more to successfully bring to market. Are you sure you aren't jumping to the next big thing before giving t

Developers are ambitious. We want to build better apps now not in 6 years time when the W3C have finally moved on this or that issue. Right now webkit is enabling developers so it wins. Supporting every browser is either economically not vi

Great work. I can really see a use for this kind of thing for designers. My favorite is the side by side view. Speaking of which there is a bug in latest chrome on win where the side by side panels get dragged when using the scrollbar.

I think we're in agreement. I totally agree that good teachers need to be rewarded and that and bad teachers need to be identified and helped or sacked. We owe that to our kids. I never said that it cant be measured. It's just really hard

Not really. I would have though that: 'do it a lot and you'll get better at it' is fairly self evident. Obviously testing of some sort would help us to determine how much better one became. I'd go so far as to say that it would be very di

I understand your points and they're all fair in the context of programming as a job. Code is code and can be evaluated in an atomic fashion, its objectively either good(correct, efficient etc) or not. How exactly do you accurately assess t

Are you a better programmer now than you were 5 years ago? How do you know? Has anyone evaluated your work and told you are now 18% more efficient than 5 years ago? It may not be 100% accurate (since we are all masters at deluding ourselves

Meh... you're entitled to your opinion. I wont lament the 'threat' to my unborn children's children. Of course if you're content to treat death as 'natural' then you're free to embrace it. I for one wish for eternal life... I can't imagine

Great site, however hate the infinite scroll. Makes it impossible to bookmark your place in the list (and is very disorienting). Also the animations of new tiles coming in are choppy and distracting. Would work much better as a simple paged

Not only that, but the content is shamelessly scraped without even the decency of including an attribution to the original authors. This post should be getting flagged and thrown out!

Why not link directly to the original demos/tutorials? Why is the repo actively designed to block me from finding the original authors? This is quite bizarre. Not even the zip files have attributions... wtf is this? eg: gloss under effects

Apple already allows JS (and other) interpreters to be embedded as used in projects such as Titanium and Impact game engine.

This is an MVP. As such I think it works marvelously. Bells and whistles can be added later and if they're added with the same ideology of simplicity first then this could be a real winner of a product.

How about a small merchant with a bricks and mortar store that wants the most friction less way possible to list goods online? Business people are busy. If it takes 30 sec to set up a store that's a big win.

There is no reasonable argument for going out of ones was to cater for non-js users. It's on by default in every browser. If a user turned it off for whatever reason they they'll know to turn it on again if they need to.
