I have a Surface Duo phone. Using both screens together is like using a tablet, but it folds up and fits in my pocket. I can have the keyboard on one screen and have a full display on the other. I can look something up on one screen whil

It's actually just below Critical Mass. (For obvious reasons). You need sufficient fissile material to provide the increased neutron flow generating heat which you can use to power generators, but you have to then extract that heat ef

I read it as well, but I think it was much earlier than that - some time in the early 1980s.

I remember this program being announced. Friends were gleefully suggesting that my proposed programming career had just disappeared. Forty-odd years later the same suggestions are now being made about GPT-4 and above.

Yes. Many years ago I was working on the Isle of Man. I initially travelled from England on Monday morning, returning on Friday evening. I then started buying tickets for the same aircraft flying to England on Friday evening and returnin

Don't forget that zig files are essentially a struct using the same name as the file. That means you can differentiate between identifiers that are using the same name by supplying the struct name as a prefix.

The defenders are being heavily shelled by Russian artillery. Your claim that 5 times as many Russians are dying is nonsense. War is not a video game. People are dying and the only response appears to be to escalate.

What this article is glibly ignoring is that the number of Ukrainian deaths are far higher. The US is fighting a proxy war with Russia to the last Ukrainian, in which everybody loses.

Pleased to meet you. I'm English. Scotland and Wales are countries. There can't be a concept of a "Union" if there are no components to unite. Scotland has its own Parliament, Legal System and even bank notes, for exa

Don't think of it as TO, think of it as increasing UNTIL. 1 increasing UNTIL 5. It is genuinely recommended (Djikstra onwards) to specify ranges as Start Value (inclusive) Until Final Value (exclusive).

Britain sank the French fleet. How is that "not doing much?" Britain expelled France from Egypt. Britain powered the Pensinsular War. By themselves.

I'm sorry, but on a tech site full of people working in IT, I genuinely think this is obviously about Boolean Satisfiability. There has to be a minimum standard of expected understanding - e.g. "Rust" on this site is unlikely

Peter Jackson's offering is beloved because it (largely) respected the books. I watched the Amazon offering. I won't criticise the visual spectacle of settings like Numenor, nor much of the acting, but the writing was just unifor

We need governments to have pro-natal policies and to stop attacking those who do have pro-natal policies, (Hungary comes to mind). The ridiculous (and often artificial) rise in house prices is another problem with real solutions like an en

I think the most interesting possibility of a "digital pound" is that it would enable money creation to only be carried out by the Bank of England; it would undermine the ability of regular banks to just create money by issuing lo

Deforestation is historic, your comment implies it is recent. We know from comprehensive aerial photographs of the UK taken by Germany in the 1930s/40s that the UK has much more forest coverage now than it had then. The UK switched to

What's not to like? I write all documentation and similar using Org Mode. I get all the power of Emacs text editing with easy tables, footnotes, hyperlinks, etc., and I can then export directly to PDF, HTML and so on.
