I'm curious about this bit: "In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Jaxa shared a photograph taken by Slim of a nearby rock that it nicknamed a "toy poodle"." What does nicknaming mean here? Is it the lander doing some s

Oh wow, this is excellent, I love the ability to mix it, especially since the water sounds tend to overpower bird ones. This is exactly what I'd like, thank you so much!

Nice idea but it's a shame the recordings are so short. I'd love some hours-long version that I could put on in the background and pair with a bit of ambient for fun.

And even digital magazines are somehow feeling the effects: https://www.theverge.com/2023/11/27/23978042/popular-science... At the time this news came out, I thought PopSci was just no longer publishing

It wouldn't really solve the problem, sadly. The percentage of people who'd bother to read that warning is likely quite low.

This has the expectation that police wouldn't just pressure the clerk to do it themselves. The clerk says they'll forward it to corporate, the policeman tells him not to bother and hints that, you know, he is the one with the powe

Tor is one publisher that sells its works without DRM, though if you're a fan of Sanderson then you probably already know about them?

I'm mostly befuddled that he considers 4 hours of time with his child a waste. Feeling unproductive while walking with a stroller? Listen to a podcast. Do audio lessons for some new language. Record some thoughts, since he's a coa

I'm having real trouble with this text. The author's pompous ego makes it hard to take any of this seriously, which, at least, he does admit. But still, the style on this piece makes me wonder if it's a professional deformati

Ah, interesting, he mentions it started with him trying to represent pixels through ceramic tiles. That's a neat concept and he's apparently been at it for 25+ years now, that is dedication.

Is there a particular reason behind Space Invaders being the theme of choice here? I read the "About" page and it suggests the mosaics are also some kind of little ARG, it seems.

But openness about mental health issues and lower stigma around it is definitely a more modern thing, actually. I don't doubt that some subsets of the population got more depressed while others feel better, but it's very possible

The bias in the article is a bit apparent, considering that Signal, a well-respected and excellent messenger, does the same thing, but isn’t called out in the title. WhatsApp, I presume, is similar? The kicker is that Telegram lets you turn

Discord has 150 million MAU versus Telegram's 800 million MAU, according to Wikipedia. It's absolutely not way more used.

Why such a misleading title? It’s the TON foundation partnering, which isn’t related to Telegram. TON used to be a Telegram product but they dumped it, likely due to SEC not letting them launch it in the US.

The turn-based one is cracking me up. There is something quite genius about taking a game as simple as Pong and deconstructing, reconstructing and just pulling it apart.

A private group is not the same as DMs on a privacy level, though. Two can keep a secret, not more. I distinctly remember reading about cops socially engineering their way into protest chats in Hong Kong, because when it's a big group

I guess it tracks with him being able to write intricate and detailed sci-fi, the man knew what he was talking about. There's a reason he's still revered as one of the greatest examples of the genre.
