Oops! It's not really a twist or anything, but yeah that was a bit of a faux pas. Pardon my stupidity!

I watched this last night, really good viewing. Especially poignant was the ending where the protagonist traded in his morals for a comfortable life and fame. It evoked feelings of disappointment that he was so cheaply bought off, the same

I owe him more than that, MVC is epic, and has pretty much fuelled my love for .NET. If it were scientifically possible (Arnie didn't really father a child in Junior, right?) I would have his baby. I'm nice like that. But alas he sought

This title is bit misleading, though reading through the comments on wired it seems the article may have said this at one point. I'm very happy he's not retiring, but not at all happy that he didn't divulge where I could get myself one of t

Edit: Sorry I think I misinterpreted your comment first time round, thought you were just a random person weighing in with an assuming comment. Still though you seem to have changed your tone slightly since your last comment. I didn't say I

Glad someone did! It's a work in progress - there are other parts to it, just felt that excerpt was particularly apt :) I agree that infrequent use is not worrisome, perhaps even beneficial - I always found when I was a less frequent user i

I've gone through periods of very high cannabis use, but recently i've massively reduced my intake. But i think its the frequency with which i smoke - everyday - that can be damaging in the way i described. It doesn't ruin my life: i won't

Wow, that's a thoroughly comprehensive response. I've never investigated tools like Cygwin or Tiny Core, but they sound like a great starting point. Incrementally is definitely how i want to learn Unix as there are so many radical paradigm

That's an interesting perspective that had never occurred to me. I'll be sure to take note of the subtleties of installation, the file system etc to see how this OS-as-IDE thing is manifested. To be perfectly honest, I'm not even familiar w

I'm not keen on Java as it's just another language with a C-style syntax, i want to have my mind blown and eyes opened. Plus after using .NET for so long, I don't think i can ever go back to the awkward namespaces and classes of the Java f

haha, didn't expect someone to drop the M-bomb! I really want to try new things, rather than just taking my skillset to a new OS, so i'll politely decline your suggestion. Thanks anyway

If you have a cursory understanding of JavaScript and it's syntax i highly recommend you check out some of Douglas Crockford's content: http://javascript.crockford.com/ . He is the man who invented the JSON format (if you don't know what t

I'll have a quick gander at Mint but at the moment i'm favouring Ubuntu, purely because i've had some experience with it. Excuse the elementary questions that follow, but i really am this ignorant to the whole Linux ecosystem! What stacks

Almost sounds like you're daring me to dive in head first! I expect I'll go with Ubuntu initially if only because I'm kind of familiar with it. That and I won't go into future shock by ditching my shiny GUI's straight away - my fear is if i

You're quite right, i was in a bit of a rush writing that original comment so perhaps didn't elucidate enough. The point i tried to make was that the major damage that cannabis can do is to your ability to achieve, the consequence of whic

One drug that definitely doesn't help is cannabis. As a habitual smoker for over ten years I know this all too well. As of late I've started wondering whether the real damage of cannabis is not in it's health consequences but in it's abilit

100% concur here. I have an i7 w/ 8GB RAM and the site is very jerky FF7. Everytime i switch to it's tab FF hangs for at least a few seconds. The design is also very bus, way too much going on. That said, if the content is good enough, i ca

That is not a better approach, there are issues with client-side caching if all resources are served over HTTPS. See http://encosia.com/cripple-the-google-cdns-caching-with-a-si...
