But you cannot ignore the fire in a crowded theater portion when it comes to politics. Unlike many other avenues in politics money = power. By having a consecrated few such as corporations or the RIAA against the populace you have a huge po

Sorry I misread your post. I just couldn't fathom a storage solution without hot swappable drives.

Well first off all S3 is not the only option. Hell even going mid tier with an established SAN installed at a cheap colo is way cheaper than S3 and leaps ahead of their solution.

Hot spares do not provide less downtime compared to a supported drive failure (ie. 2 disks on raid 6). they just reduce the mean time to repair. Handy if your disks are at a remote site or your dealing with very large arrays but likely a wa

Or if all else fails they can blow themselves up at the security checkpoint, or on a train, or on a bus, or metro, or .... Really once a person has decided to blow themselves up their options for committing terrorism are exceedingly large.

As someone who has been on the inside that last quote is almost all a smoke screen. In reality they do not know as much as they claim and many idiotic policies are there for idiotic or political reasons. Besides since government should be a

Funny enough Thanksgiving 2010 I accidentally left a similar sized pocket knife in my pocket. I elected for the full body scanner which did not pickup the knife. Instead I was reminded I had it when the regular old metal detector at the cru

This is what I was going for. Everyone claims you get what you pay for but it is important to remember that some users do pay for Google services. What is worrisome is how Goggles actions in this case would apply to those users.

I don't mean that I should have a right to other users videos what I mean is what if I upload a video to my "paid" account that UMG takes offense too.

And what if I am a paying Google Apps Customer. Video through youtube is included in what I pay for. Should UMG have the right to control that as well?

Thats why policies, like contracts, should never be evergreen. Policies simply amount to internal contracts and any company that does not regularly review and refresh them is doomed to this kind of waste.

Agreed, I can think of nothing more personal than having to make that kind of decision. I do think some safeguards are probably necessary to prevent reactionary decisions such as cases where pain or disease are temporary. At the end of the

Nothing is 100% reliable. The question is is the frequency/type of downtime vs. cost is more efficient (cost effective) in the cloud than doing it yourself. For some, especially small non-tech shops the answer is yes.
