I agree. Also in this particular case, an added challenge is that the frontend has to work offline and my customer wants to self host everything instead of using an easy 3rd party solutions like Firebase, even as a proxy.

That's where the "smart" comes in. It wouldn't be smart to build something that is un-maintainable or prone to breaking in the future if that's what was needed, would it?

I wish frontend work were as easy as gluing things together. My life would be so much easier. I built the entire stack for my current project and the frontend (Angular/Ionic) has taken the most work.

OK, so ContentChanged is new since the last time I looked - thanks for that! However, IPC via files is still a PITA in general compared to something easy like sockets. Using an external IP address is a terrible solution for communicating wi

They already did UWP-only Windows. That was WindowsRT. Nobody bought into that either, but Microsoft still really, really wants that closed-market, walled-garden style business model to happen somehow and so they're going to keep tryin

Give it a try. You can't send requests to `localhost` or `127.0.0.1` at all. AppService is largely useless for IPC between UWP and Win32 since the UWP app can't initiate a request to the Win32 app. Another thing you can't do,

Not yet. Their next strategy is to try and use ARM (again) to shove UWP down your throat. I love Windows but I seriously will not touch UWP until they loosen up the sandbox restrictions so that I can do regular IPC with a win32 desktop app.

Meh. The bug requires you to connect Windows to a malicious SMB server. Now that everybody knows that, if anybody is really concerned, they can stop SMB connections from LAN to WAN by blocking TCP 139, 445 and UDP 137, 138.

Pffft, it takes a lot more than a contract to maintain an empire the size of Microsoft. Their tech beats OSS in many areas and there is definitely a reason that people continually pay to use it.

That's because Microsoft took over the entire world of computing by selling easy to use GUI tools instead of command line tools.

Right, but it was introduced to C# over 8 years ago so it's a bit of a moot point, wouldn't you say? `Dim`, a poorly worded keyword by today's standards, is a perfect example of the kind of leftover crap that C# doesn't

You don't write your type twice in C# either. So, the second example would be: var d = new Dictionary<string, string>(); `Dim` is worse than `var` because nobody uses the word "Dimension" when they're talk
