I used to take BART into the city for years before I moved away from the bay. Yea, I'd sometimes see a rare scuffle and occasionally there would be someone who smelled like they had shat themselves 3 times living in one of the cars, bu

I love how you immediately go for public transit as an analogy for something regrettable. Fits.

They just be doing something crazy because any time I query my local llm the lights in my office dim and the temperature rises a few degrees. Definitely far more energy than running the microwave for 1 second.

Ironically it was the act of doing that: spinning up a VM to test a release on Windows, which really turned me against it forever. During installation, I counted 4 un-skippable EULAS about "sharing data" and then asked me what my

It's the LSP plugin that finally drove me to leave ST4 for Zed. Language integration is table stakes for an editor now. The fact that ST support is behind a volunteer plugin instead of integrated directly in the editor just means it&#x

You'd rather see another crappy, slow editor packaging an entire browser? Because that seems like what people are using for "cross platform toolkits" these days. I'm glad Zed is being ambitious, it's truly a joy to

Myself and most people I know that switch to Zed (many from Sublime) did it because we DON'T want a DOM in our text editor. Webtech makes for crappy text editors.

I just finished implementing a chatbot in a box for a clients sass. What problem does it solve? None that I can tell, other than now the sass “has ai”. I still have access to the OpenAI dashboard. I can confirm nobody is actually using it.

The people that are already using Anubis don’t care about “losing a large portion of the market” we just want to work on our FOSS projects without paying unnecessary bills due to out of control crawling.

The GPT-1 responses really leak how much of the training material was literature. Probably all those torrented books.

This is sad, but predictable. At the end of the day if I can follow a link to an Anubis protected site and view it on my phone, the crawlers will be able to as well. I see a lot more private networks in our future, unfortunately.

Luckily the UI and the core (libghostty) are separate so you can girate out your own UI 101 version without GTK if you'd like.

This is what did it for me too. Why would I pay for a crappy UX and ads? But all these companies need numbers to keep going up, so they keep tightening the screws.

You realize people do this for fun right? It’s fun to create your own distro (you should try it some time) and it’s fun to play with different ones as well. Nobody wants Linux to be more like windows, and otherwise they’d just use windows.
