I mostly agree. But NPM is special, in that the exposure is so much higher. The hypothetical python+htmx web app might have 10s of dependencies (including transitive) whereas your typical Javascript/React will have 1000s. All an attack

If someone uses an LLM to help them write good code that is indistinguishable from human written code, you are right, it's not enforceable. And that's what most people that are using LLMs should be doing. Unfortunately sometimes i

The only time I even get one of those things is if I forget my regular bag or I buy too much stuff to fit. That happens like once a month. Why are you going into the store empty handed and coming out with 16 plastic bags?

Setting up the GDT is exactly the point where I got annoyed enough to see what risc-v was all about.

Just Qemu. I used this as a guide: https://operating-system-in-1000-lines.vercel.app/en/ It's C so translating to Zig is pretty fun.

Zig really is amenable to OS development. And so is RISC-V. I started this same exercise except with x86 first. I quickly got annoyed with all the legacy boilerplate required. RISC-v doesn’t have any of that. It’s so much faster to get up a

Pass is still amazing after all these years. Shameless self plug: I wrote a gnome search provider for it so you can lookup passwords from the overview. Supports OTP as well. https://github.com/Fingel/ripasso-gnome-searc

Why, of all root directories, would you skimp out on /var? It literally stands for variable data.

The only thing that makes it more native than electron is that it uses the system's webview, instead of shipping an entire Chrome/CEF. You write Rust for Tauri's backend, which is nice.

I would say Javascript's lack of a standard library is at least in part responsible for encouraging npm use, things just spiraled out of control from there.

Yup and once it arrives there the MS fans will be in here telling everyone to “just use the server edition” like they do now to anyone who says they don’t like ads and spyware in their OS today.

It does not. Filing jointly just saves some hassle in the case where the partners are in the same tax bracket.

Blogs sure. This is a reference. Seems silly to potentially compromise the UI for its primary purpose just so random people from HN can better read it from the toilet.

I work part time nights/weekends so I can raise my child during the day. Which 50% does that put me in?

Yea and I think that’s great. OP makes it sound like every parent is pining to contribute to the churning of capitalism if only they didn’t have to worry about raising a child. It’s not so.

You realize a lot of people actually prefer to give their child their best instead of outsourcing it so they can focus on bettering the economy, right?

I think a lot of people forget how long ago Electron/Atom were released, and the subsequent Cambrian explosion of Electron based apps and editors like VSCode. There's probably a huge amount of developers that haven't used any
