They're also negative because no one has actually proved that the D-Wave is, in fact, doing any actual quantum computing. That's been the issue all along with D-Wave: no one can prove that it's really doing anything with thos

Are there others that you can buy? As far as I know, D-Wave is the only one out of the lab. I'm totally a D-Wave skeptic, but I do have to state that the scientists who tested this thing sound like idiots, unless they really did try qu

Yeah, clearly the message here is: hackers understand that passwords are mostly useless security features if you don't trust the site you're using them on. Better to make them easier to put in than use something high security and

See, this is why Google wanted real names on Youtube. We've all read Youtube comments. They are the single worst comments on the Internet. Typically racist, usually mean, often obscene. Google really, through all this, just wanted to m

I am fairly shocked it took this long for someone to make a DynDNS replacement. I haven't been able to effectively use DynDNS since last century.

Yeah, well, they'd never bothered him until he wrote 2 books that contained the recipes for making lots of psychedelic drugs. Shortly after publishing these books (TIHKAL and PIHKAL) the DEA came down on him. In his book he writes that

The DEA eventually got upset with him and took away that license, raided his house, and ruined his lab. In the end, they closed him down based on a single reading of slightly elevated mercury levels in his yard. Read his books.

An amazing man. Truly the Copernicus of his time: persecuted for his pursuit of science. In 100 years, this man will be considered one of the most important neural science researchers ever.

Canada was already doing this for the games industry, though not at 80%. It worked. Look at all the studios in Montreal. Perhaps it could work again for the startup culture. It's cold enough up there in the winter that going outside is

I dropped out too, and while I was perhaps reassured by the fact that successful people had been able to make it without college, really I just fucking hated sitting in school all day. There are plenty of reasons to drop out beyond "wa

Yeah, I think it's deeper than just being a self-important asshole. It's more about the fact that we are 1000 times more productive, as a species, than we were just 20 years ago, and yet, we all still work just as hard. This, coup

As usual, I've played this one in the IGF. Great game that has that super addictive "one more try" feeling to it. It probably took my about 100 tries to complete the demo level, so it's kinda like Super Meat Boy in that

I get sick of people fretting over stupid patents. Take matters into your own hands and invalidate these fuckers. I think I found some prior art just Googling around: https://www.google.com/patents/US7177537?dq=automate

Well, guess we'll be spending the day invalidating this. Instead of getting angry, just invalidate! It's easy! Find some prior art. This one should be a fucking dawdle.

Nevermind the classic problem that was addressed in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and others: how do you prove you're sane? If the machine says you're insane, what way is there to prove otherwise?

Yeah, but the very nature of computer science tends to mean it's a turtles on down scenario. You explain that (for example), no, you can't upgrade the machine to windows 7 from XP, and that's why your question is about XP, th

Taxes and delays make it easier and faster to get debt than to move a couple billion from, say, France or China, to the US. It's complex, but there's a lot of stuff explaining this in other comments around here. I'm sure some
