To be fair, Haskell is the Common Lisp of lazy functional languages. You don't hear much about Maclisp or Zetalisp anymore either.

I don't know of a single person who hasn't made very bad mistakes using C. Even the stuff coming from Bell Labs (Plan 9, UNIX) has had trivially avoidable bugs. By your analogy, everyone has lost at least one digit.

Well as you say, Metal is really for iOS. And I think the evidence points to Apple caring much more about iOS than the Mac. So it makes sense from that perspective.

You're ignoring the operative word, which is need . You can't say much about that point without actually doing some analysis. For instance, how much of that code is wiring? How much of that code is rewriting existing solutions fo
