That's a bit harsh, it is at least a grey area. Mass-assignment by-default, with disabling fields you want to protect vs Mass-assignment off by default, with enabling fields you want to mass-assign. It's hardly just outright arrogance.

He didn't WANT to tell github, he wanted Rails Core to pay attention to him, and github was the sacrificial lamb. He doesn't deserve props from github, he just exploited their app to make a point (to rails core) he never disclosed anything

Trying to encapsulate what happiness (of yourself and other people) in an HN comment is going to fail. Don't trivialise other peoples motivations because they aren't your own.

Sure if you believe in inequality/social injustice... I believe most first-world economies have some form of wealth redistribution[1]. [1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redistribution_of_wealth

Have you seriously seen (non-computer) people write simple arithmetic as + 1 3 ? This feels like a discussion based in fiction...

Weak arguement. So rather than form a language around our existing learnings (in Math as you say). We should change all our existing learnings to suit a particular language... then it's more readable... riiiiight, good luck with that. :)

Probably because it's not a one sided affair and both sides in a (China/US) confrontation have a lot of leverage over each other so a conflict is not in the interest of either party...

It's better when "everyone tries to at-least appear to follow the rules" ? Isn't that worse than blatantly not following the rules, because at least you know what they are doing?

Because it's hard work using a set of skills they don't have (i.e finding relevant academics to peer review papers, organising reviews, conflict resolution, collecting papers... etc). Plus they already have to teach like 6 hours or somethin

Could only really work if ALL cars are autonomous. How many car accidents involve only 1 car? Also insurance is hardly an innovative industry... I'd bet they don't change anything about how they insure people for a LONG time.

Regardless whether it's a design or engineering problem. It is pretty clear evidence there is tension between the teams (design and engineering). Which is the opposite of what Gruber is arguing.

Gruber managed to do that without offering much evidence to the contrary. Do Apple engineers and Designers really work side by side? Or is it just that Apple prioritise design over engineering. So rather than the engineers throwing a brick

I've never interpreted the claims of "Reality Distortion Field" as being part of his marketing spin. I'd always read about it as a management style, that he used on his team (internally). (This seems to be backed up by his recent biography

Really? I remember reading about all the crap between Apple/Microsoft/Xerox (in the late 80s/90s) none of it could be described as even close a 'gentlemen's game". Are we that different to any other industry?
