This is like asking if Spanish should be considered free speech. Or watercoloring. Or interpretive dance. Regardless of the medium, speech is protected ("free") depending on its contents and context.

The author talks about building a diagram of the relations in an industry. Any sufficiently complex industry (or any system, really) has so many different kinds of relations that they can't be expressed in a single diagram without ma

I wouldn't be so sure. There's a reason why Big Dumb Action movies get cranked out while comedies have largely died: they do well in the foreign market. This is basic least-common-denominator thinking that leads to bland schlock.

Ilograph [0] is a similar (and, in my biased opinion, better) tool that has a 100% local runtime option (called Ilograph Desktop). You can still test-drive it with the browser version, of course. [0] https://www.ilograph.com

Ilograph[1] is tackling this problem using YAML instead of css. Both are declarative, which is the key differentiator vs. tools that use programming languages. [1] https://www.ilograph.com

I'm always baffled whenever a GitHub repo trends on here. I would have guessed a list of files and a Readme would be the last thing that would trend.

I think because it dis-empowers programmers and gives that power to "architects", SREs, system administrators etc. Decisions that could have been made and enforced through code instead must be coordinated across multiple systems.

I don't think ASCII diagrams are a very good idea, but drag-and-drop tools bring their own problems for engineers. I wrote on this earlier this year: https://www.ilograph.com/blog/posts/its-time-to-drop-drag-

The only tool that I know of that uses YAML for diagrams is Ilograph: https://www.ilograph.com/ But yeah, ASCII for diagrams seems like the worst of all worlds: manual layouts, slow to create, impossible to maintain.
