To be honest, hijacking scrolling takes me to about the 90% "I'm ready to leave this site" frustration level. I've learned to live with it for a few sites, but if you don't get my attention is about 10 seconds, I&#

so you talk about supply and demand, yet think cost is set purely by suppliers? What do you think would happen to the cost of potatoes if only 10% of last years harvest was harvested this year. It would go up, but only to the point where

everyone stopping trading gold would only happen if everyone stopped using gold, so how is it still useful. Imagine, if you would, a machine that can make as much of something as you want, replicating it from nothing. Put gold through it.

Congrats, you just decided that gold miners are the most altruistic people in the world, charging people only what it costs to mine the gold, not what the market would bear. I wish other companies could be so generous! Also, I would recomm

In other words, their subjective value? Gold has no value to me at all, as I don't have any use for it. If you tried to sell me gold, the only reason I'd buy it is if I could immediately resell it for a profit. My subjective va

My wife's dentist didn't use gold for her teeth, Copper and silver are better conductors. Gold's only useful quality is that it doesn't tarnish. Ask yourself this, on a desert island, what's more valuable, 5 pound

Terse: adjective, terser, tersest. 1. neatly or effectively concise; brief and pithy, as language. 2. abruptly concise; curt; brusque. e.g. blunt, rough. Unfortunately for you, both connotation and denotation were working against you.

Yes, but what you are trying to say is that oscillators and voltage reg are really complex and hard, but they aren't, parts that are half the cost have them and much much more complex functionality. The best argument I've seen so

Because windows drivers need non-trivial amounts of support in the form of driver development kit and driver signing. Then you run into issues with which driver to pull for the chip, cause now you are conflicting with FTDI's driver.

Cause Linux has drivers that support it already, that are a part of the kernel. Not likely that FTDI'd manage to get the kernel devs to add bricking code like this. Kernel devs already added code to handle devices that had been messe

so, yay, go with something other then FTDI, cause other companies don't seem to have the same fascination with killing clone chips. Alas, other companies actually try to make stuff cheaper and have more features.

Look at the datasheet, it's got a usb DFU bootloader loaded by default. :) Biggest issue would just be making sure it can switch over to serial mode, but that's already done in arduino's, so should be pretty easy.

People are allowed to choose the parts they want to use. I call it voting with your wallet. Maybe FTDI will realize that people don't want to use their products when they pull stunts like this.

Destruction after due process and by the proper authorities, yes. After all, it's a reverse engineered product. How does the software know that it's got FTDI stamped on it? Everything else is just implementation details.

The half the cost parts already have internal oscillators, and I have yet to see a use of an FTDI type chip where there's no other microcontroller, so you have voltage regulation already, not to mention the 5V from usb. All your point
